Yellow Sunglasses

From a purely 'physics' point of view, any kind of filter will reduce the total amount of EM radiation passing through it. However, when I wore my friend's yellow tinted sunglasses today, the world 'appeared' to be brighter as a result.

Why is this?

Our visible spectrum do not distribute evenly by our solar frequencies due to nitrogen and oxygen molecules and many other tiny particles in our ozone layer scattered the ultraviolet light, thus the most intense been in the yellow-green part of the spectrum.

And our eyes have since evolved to take advantage of the maximum sensitivity in these range. That's why we can see yellow sodium-vapour lamps better at night.

Your friend's sunglasses as you said are tinted in yellow thus the world appear brighter for you.

Also you might have notice that more and more country adopt yellow-green paint for fire engines and in airports where visibility is vital.

That's common sense rather then pure physics point of view.

I intend to use it for cycling. Just wondering if its good enough to make the sun not so glaring as I would like to use it at night too, so I can still see. Will wearing yellow tinted sunglasses in the noon damage my eyes?

The yellow tint increases contrast, on a bright sunny day I would use a darker tint. They work the best at dusk, dawn and on overcast days. If you shop at some of the bike or sunglass shops you can find certain brands that come with interchangeable lens, then you can swap the lens as needed for the light condition. As far as eye damaged is concerned all the glass' I checked on had UV protection.

Those were my sunglasses that he took from me onstage at the concert and i cant find a picture of him wearing them anywhere!

The concert was in Washington DC on July 29th, 2009. The band is Green Day and the singers name is Billie Joe Armstrong.

Also Tre Cool (drummer) gave them back to me on stage so a picture of that would be cool if you could find one.

A monotone chromatic color is like a color such as blue, with only variations in contrast/tint/shade. If I focus hard enough I can make everything look like I am looking through blue or yellow tinted sunglasses. I can make everything I see the color blue with different shades and contrasts. And it's not just single objects, it's my whole visual field that turns either yellow or blue on command, how am I able to do this? What is technically happenening in my mind?

acid maybe ... thats really weird .. u better pipe down before the boys in the white suits or black SUVs' show up ...
