What is the difference between polarized and glass polarized sunglasses?

I've been looking on different websites to buy sunglasses for my boyfriend for his birthday that's coming up. I saw some Electric sunglasses that I know he'll love. There are two that almost look exactly the same though the difference is:

1. Electric ECDC gloss black grey glass polarized.
Those cost $150 each

2. Electric ECDC gloss black grey polarized
Those cost $120 each

I just wanted to know what the difference between them was, and which pair I should get. Thanks for the help!

Look at the polarized sunglasses here http://www.sunglassesuk.com/polarized_su nglasses.asp for me a simple polarized sunglasses is much comfortable and much cool to use than the glass one..

What is the difference between Von Zipper polarized and poly polarized sunglasses?

I am trying to purchase some sunglasses for my husband and i can't figure out what the difference between poly polarized and just polarized. The polarized ones are around $40 more expensive... can anyone help?

The polarised ones are a glass lens that wont scratch as easy.
The Poly polarised are poly carbonate (Plastic Lens) that is much lighter but scratches easy.
Hope this helps.

What are some good brands for quality polarized sunglasses?

I know that Oakley, Ray-Ban, and Maui Jim are probably the best brands fro sunglasses. But, what are some other brands that make quality polarized sunglasses for a cheaper price?

Does anyone have any experience with the quality of Fossil lenses?

I've not had experience with Fossil sunglasses but their other products are top notch.

As far as other brands go, all the names you mention are good (Oakley, Bolle, etc.) If you're after polarized lenses and you're not looking for a big brand you could pick up a pair for under $20.

Why are Smith polarized sunglasses worth their price?

I used to have a pair of Smith brand sunglasses worth around $150! (I got them cheaper) and then my boyfriend lost them. He cannot understand why he should fork over more money for another pair of Smith polarized glasses for me instead of buying the cheap sunglasses found anywhere. I try to answer him, but what should be my argument? I just think they're much better quality and worth paying more ONCE than buying numerous "cheap" glasses over my lifetime. Help! I need to convince him!

Polarized glass is designed an treated to block either horizontal or vertical light. This treatment process can only be completed on high quality lenses and the process itself makes the completed lenses more effective at blocking light and, also, more expensive.

The reason that you should try not to wear cheapie sunglasses -- with any consistancy -- is bacuase the lenses are of such poor quality that they can actual harm your eyesight (because your eyes are constantly having to adjust to sharpen your view through cheap plastic).

What are polarized sunglasses and how do they work?

My eye doctor told me to get a pair of these for my light sensitivity. What makes them so special?

it's a little complicated to describe without pictures. light waves vacillate at a right angle to the direction of propagation, so they travel on a flat path that is like a tiny ribbon. this is an over-simplification, of course. polarized lenses only allow light waves to pass if the little ribbons are close to being parallel. they filter out a lot of light, and can take glare off of shiny objects like glass, metal or water. that's why fishermen and sailors wear them. one interesting thing you can observe with them is that if you put one polarized lens over the other, and put the polarization a quarter turn apart, no light passes through the two lenses.

  • Hawaii in High Definition with Polarized Sunglasses

If you don’t already have a pair of polarized sunglasses, do yourself a favor and get some to bring on your Hawaii vacation. They really do make a difference.

You know the phrase, “Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know”? Well that was the case with me until I had a chance to try polarized sunglasses for myself. Andy had a pair of polarized glasses and I noticed that sometimes he’d make comments about things he could see, but I couldn’t. Then Andy would let me try on his polarized glasses and I could see what he was seeing. Wow, what a difference!

Polarized sunglasses are perfect for Hawaii because they cut down on the glare of the sun on the ocean and sand. When the glare is removed, you are able to see a greater depth of colors. Sometimes, polarized sunglasses help you see into the water, making coral and fish visible.

Another advantage of polarized sunglasses is that it prevents your eyes from getting fatigued. So when you’re out driving and sightseeing, not only are you able to see more without glare, your eyes aren’t getting tired.
