Would Oakley M Frame sunglasses be suitable for Skiing?
080121_2745

I am thinking about buying a pair of Oakley M frame sunglasses for when i go skiing. However they are expensive (£120) Would they be suitable for winter sports?

I suppose it depends on how fast you go and how tolerant your eyes are to cold wind. I can't use sunglasses of any kind except in real "spring" conditions. I go pretty fast and my eyes will water badly unless I'm wearing goggles. So basically, I just about never use sunglasses.

Do sunglasses for skiing need to be expensive?
skiing or alive

Going skiing very soon and havn't got a pair of sunglasses.
Do they need to be a good pair or can you get cheap ones that'll be fine.
My only concern is that they won't protect my eyes from the sun if i buy a cheap pair, not too bothered about how they look.
would a pair for £10-20 be fine for skiing? and do they need to be polarized (sp?)?
Thanks

Nope. Cheap is fine. Polarized lenses help, but you don't need to blow a wad of cash on shades. $20 can buy you some decent sunglasses.

What is better for skiing Sunglasses or ski goggles?
(Untitled)

ski goggles because they are multi purpose. you can use goggles at night if its snowing, as sunglasses, and to protect your face. sunglasses are only for sunny days, and not at night. and now there is new technology that wont cause goggles to fog up and be cooler. ski goggles are the way to go.

Polarised or normal sunglasses for skiing?
(Untitled)

i will be going skiing soon and i want to buy a particular pair of sunglasses that come normal or polarised... the normal pair are cheaper but would they still protect my eyes while skiing or in the sun???

Either pair would protect your eyes - however - polarised lenses will cut down the glare from the sun and snow !

Polarised lenses work by only allowing light through from certain directions - they're designed to filter out light from high angles (from the sun) and low angles (snow etc)

  • Glasses For Skiing Or The Beach

Usually in modern glasses that contain photochromic material, the time for the glasses lenses to convert from a clear (or close to clear) state having not been exposed to ambient UV light (so indoors for example) is very short - of around 60 seconds to reach a substantially dark state. The lenses continue to turn even darker as they remain exposed to sunlight and may take up to 15 minutes to complete the process. This reversal process tends to take longer, and can be quite significantly dependent on the ambient temperature as well as the amount of ambient UV. The colder it is, the faster the particles (in the case of glasses lenses) or molecules (in the case of plastic glasses lenses) will react and either go darker or lighter depending on the exposure.
