I am specifically looking for these great OutLaw Eyewear sunglasses that I saw at a biker show. They are made out of Aluminum and wrap around the face really well. They made my friend look totally bad ass.

Can the Iridium on sunglasses and motorcycle helmet shields wipe off?
I've got something you'll want to see

I've heard this myth since I was a kid when everyone had iridium oakleys and a guy at work his motorcycle helmet shield was smudged and he was all worried that it was going to wipe away. I remember beating the hell out of my oakleys, getting them wet and cleaning them with whatever I could find. He seems to think that you can only use water and a soft cloth to clean it or it will take the iridium right off. Does anyone have any proof one way or the other?


If the iridium is electroplated on the glass as a film, it would take a little effort to remove it. I'm not certain how strong the bond is between the metal and the glass is, but the film can be scratched. A strong acid could dissolve the film.

If the iridium is incorporated into the glass, it would be impossible to rub or scratch the iridium off.
