Why don't the loggers on Ax Men wear hearing or eye protection?

I know many loggers and have done it myself a few times. No logging company I know of would let their employees work without hearing protection and safety glasses. Is it irresponsible of the history channel to show loggers working without basic safety equipment?

Because they are stupid.

My mother will not let me buy a laser cutter! HELP!?

Hey all, I have a very big problem, my mother will not let me buy this laser that I found on e'bay, even though i have more than enough money to be able to buy it, I already know everything about it, it is a red laser cutter, 240mW, and about 680nm, I am a member of various laser sites, and a basically know the insides and outs of lasers. Apparently she doesn't want it in the household, because some idiot might come along and decide too shine it in his eyes, but well, what's the bloody chance of that happening when no one hardly visits me anyway. I really need this laser, for about 3 things.
-To use as a laser housing for other diodes, for the DEEP presentation, which I need be conducting an experiment.
-Use as an example when showing my finished product (which will be donated to the school, for purely educational purposes of course.
-A tool, to help construct the actual product, because I plan too be working with very fine materials, and the laser seems, perfect to cut these fine materials.
I would say this laser cutter, would be either a class 2 or 3, which isn't really harmful considering safety precautions, like safety glasses, etc.

My mother has had a well known history, for being paranoid about simple little harmless things, but I really do not see much danger in this object, unless some one or something was idiotic enough to shine to in their eyes, without wearing any safety glasses/protection. She apparently thinks, it can be used as a weapon, that maybe so, but even a kitchen knife can be used as a more effective weapon than this laser, after all it's only 220mW, not 30 or 40W now is it.

Can anyone try to help me convince her, that this laser is purely not that harmful, and not some evil weapon of mass destruction as she points out? Any opinions, advice, solutions to the problem would be greatly appreciated, and aswell as any evidence that this laser isn't as lethal as she points out to be(since she has a very little knowledge of lasers). I have tried explaining my reasons for it, and it doesn't seem to help ,she still doesn't want it in the house, when clearly there is no real danger in it. (when i mentioned the word radiation she freaked out).

Yours Sincerely, Bryce K.

(P.S, with any evidence, could you please reference any sites/sources where you got the information from, if you just know it's harmless, just say so, any supporting argument that you have to offer will be greatly appreciated).

Well, I' going to have to be on your mother's side on this one too. You say you know a lot about lasers. But I have to question that. If you knew a lot about lasers you would not mis-classify this as a "class 2 or 3" laser. This is a class 3B laser which can cause devestating and instantaneous damage to your vision. Even weak reflections of a laser this powerful can instantly and permanently blind you or anyone else unfortunate enough to be walking past. Yes, laser safety glasses can protect you, but do you have such glasses? Proper safety glasses for this laser would not be inexpensive (and no, your sunglasses will not help). Did you know that this laser exceeds the damage threshold for your eyes by about a factor of 200?

Look, a responsible employer whose employees operated such a laser would have a mirriad of protective procedures for operating such a device. Here is a sample of what a reponsible employer would need to do to make this laser 'safe':

1. Everyone in the room when this laser is in operation would be required to have laser safety training.
2. This laser would only be operated in a windowless room.
3. There would be a warning light outside the room to warn anyone walking in the hallway to not enter the room when the laser was in operation.
4. There would be a curtain to stop the laser from shining into the hallway incase someone ignored the light and opened the door.
5. Everyone in the room woul be required to wear proper laser-potective golges.

This is not a toy laser, and the safety issues for such a laser are taken very seriously by the professionals who use such lasers. So I agree with your mom. This is not something you should have without the proper training and the proper safety measures.

Looking for a 4 door sedan between a 97 and 2001.?

I am looking for a 4 door sedan, preferably not too big. I want something that has plenty of power, i want something that drives good and rides good. I have a dream of having a car that rides like it is on glass, where i don't even feel the bumps in the road. I want something that has adequate trunk space and room to fit 4 or 5 people inside and of course first and foremost the most important thing is reliability and safety. i don't want something that has a history of problems and is a safety hazard. Any info on the makes and models i should be looking at would be greatly appreciated. Please no bs absent minded answers.

Why is this happening?

My friend went to Victoria for the long weekend, and she just sent me an email. She found me the most gorgeous guy on earth, and they went out for a dinnner date. We are only eleven, and all my friends, ALMOST ALL( 90% ), have had boyfriend history. I agree that I am too old to date, and I am really happy for my friend, but why do I feel sad, and jealous?

Is it because all the guys in my school are shallow and retarded and only like girls that are beautiful? I have always been known as the brainy one, with the ugly teeth(braces), glasses, I have a strange attraction that guys just don't like me. I have plenty of friends, and one of my friends have the exact features as me, and she is a guy magnet!

My parents are safety crazy. My mom says I can't have a boyfriend or date until I am around 18. My dad says 20. I don't know why everything revolves around this right now. Help me!
This guy isn't really someone i like- or even know! I just have these weird emotions....

Jealousy, sadness, and i don't know why!

Hi, I´ve been there before lol. It always seems like your friends can get the guys they want but you´re the rejected one.

Listen, don´t worry about it. You said you´ve been using braces and one day it´ll make a difference in your smile. The same thing about the way you look.

Every girl can look pretty if they know how to dress up nice, find the right hair cut, be a nice person (because remember, sometimes it´s not all about the beauty, but about your self esteem. If you´re not happy with the way you look and your self esteem is low.. that will be visible to other people).

All you have to do is try to feel good about yourself and you´re most likely to find someone that will like you. Also, being the brainy one is a great thing. One day you´ll see how much that´s important. When you grow up a little bit you´ll realize that being smart is a great quality and that there are a lot of boys out there looking for someone like that.

Being 11 is really hard sometimes, because the boy issues start to come up and you don´t know how to deal with it. But don´t worry, like I said before, believe more in yourself because that will make you more confident, and that definitely helps you to find boys.

Hope this helped!

What is your opinion about the medicinal and health benefits of wine & spirits?

*** they say that a glass of wine at dinner is good for the elderly
*** and I myself know that some Dubonnet Rouge has done me a world of good on a rainy, blue day ... and the tiniest nip of Southern Comfort chased away a really nasty microbe one time

However, I am having difficulty balancing out the question of safety vis-a-vis alcohol in all different ways, my family history forbidding alcohol, and my own wish to have a little something

I am always hankering after cherry cough syrup but I am sure it is not the thing to have if I have no cold, so I am thinking Cherry Heering or Schnapps ...or a Kir

Don't you think it all does more good than harm? Is the alcohol in a Hot Toddy bad for a cold? Could St. Bernard be all
that wrong?

thank you in advance and
>>Merry Christmas<<

It's All Relative: Traditions in Today's Family History

Whether your family history research takes you to Chicago or Chattanooga, you'll look at birth, marriage, and death certificates, naturalization documents, census records, city directories, maps, obituaries, even church histories. Let's chat about the many genealogical resources available, where to find them, and the methodology needed for a rewarding outcome. Despite 20+ years of experience in family history research, I know there is still much to learn. New resources are made available everyday. Technology is ever improving. Blogging helps in two ways; first it keeps my research on track, forcing me to systematically work through every lead one at a time. Second it gives me an opportunity to share the interesting research methodology, resources, and records I uncover along the way. I have two rules when my grandchildren are passengers in my car. First, you must wear your safety belt. And second, you must wear cool glasses. The first time I packed fun sunglasses was a lark. My four oldest...
