Door With Safety Glasses

Hi,

I have a glass door with three glass panels. One of the panels has the BS6206 mark on it confirming that it is safety glass, however the othe two don't although i'm 99% certain it's the same glass. i need to prove that it is safety glass as i am registering my home for business purposes. Does anyone know how i could do this? Can people come out and test it?

a glass company would have to remove the piece of glass from the door to check to see if it was tempered. there are usually indicators that a trained eye can spot. Tong marks, bugs, etc.

I locked myself out today, without keys, shoes, or cellphone, and with my oven on. None of my neighbors are home during the day, so I decided I had to get inside somehow. We have a back door with the top half of the door being glass with wood squares forming or simulating panes. I tried to break out one pane with a hammer and after beating on the glass with all my might for quite awhile it didn't break. I was finally able to use a long flathead screwdriver between the door knob and frame and pop open the door (which is ok because we also have a dead bolt we can use). Now I'm wondering if all exterior doors have safety glass? This made me feel much better about break-ins considering I had such a horrible time breaking into my own home!

it depends on the age. glass in small panes is quite strong. if its a newer door then yes it would be tempered safety glass which has 4 times the strength of regular glass.

I want to replace my front entry door. My first choice would be a mostly glass door. Right now, I have a metal or some such material door with a large top half window. So, my question is how much more of a security risk is it to have glass on the bottom as well? PLEASE: If am looking for expertise here, not a casual opinion.

I live in a semi-rural area on the outskirts of a major city. We have neighbors on both sides but our driveway/entryway is not visible to either of those houses.

Crime = Opportunity + Desire.

Nothing wrong with an all glass door - if there is not much on the other side to protect/value.

Rural area with limited visabilty from road and neighbors seems to be a good burglar target. Consider an alarm.

My opinion with 23 year in LE experience.

Like on the edge of the platform, do you think they should put the glass walls/doors up?

Ventilation issues could be handled if they put the doors high enough to leave about 1-2 feet from the ceiling to the top of the door, so that the ventilation system wouldn't have to change.
I think they should, what about you?

Do you think they should wait for full automation of trains before they implement the doors?

Or do you think they should do what London did and just make it so the driver has to brake early and line up the front of the train with a mark on the wall so that the train doors line up with the platform doors? This scenario means they don't have to wait until 2012 or 2016 or whenever the full automation is implemented, to implement the safety doors. Then later when they do the automation, they could still line it up and I think it would still be ok.

I like the idea but then I don't live in TO anymore but it would come out of my Ontario taxes to pay for it. I've been in cities overseas that have that system and I didn't feel that I had to stand next to the wall just in case somebody gave me a little shove by "accident". At the very least it should be installed at the Younge & Bloor station on both levels there is/was always a lot of people there.

living in renatl property and wanted to know if the full 10 panel glass door is safe or legal now. We also have a window at the bottom of the stairs fitted with single pain glass. Should it be safety glass and is the landloard legally required to replace it in line with the glass charter
The 10 panel glass door is an main outer door and the window at the bottom of the stairs directly in fall level. Does he legally have to replace them and who do i write to for furhter info as my letting agent isnt very helpful

just because something is single paned, doesn't mean it isn't safety glass. safety glass can be a tempered or laminated glass. they do put 1/8 tempered in doors and even thicker, though not always, in windows. laminated could also work in either, it just isn't as thin. look for a stamp on the glass marking it as tempered or laminated. that will qualify it as safety glass. and yes it is legally required. even if it is tempered without a logo, its still safe, but not legal.
