My landlord is trying to evict us over something really silly and we have to go to court on Tues and I'm trying to use the most I can against him in the maintenance department so hopefully we will win.
I live in Ontario Canada and I've tried googling the fire safety code and can't find anything on it except for needing to have a door closer but do apartment buildings need to have a metal or glass (anything non wood I guess) door for the main entrance and also for the doors of each individual apartment?
I have a wood door which I swear is just a closet door for my main door and the main entrance door is also a wood door
Also since it is an apartment building should there also be some sort of integrated fire alarm system? it is only 2 stories high with 4 apartments and currently there's only 2 regular smoke alarms in the hallway
Thanks for the help
I'm not trying to get back pay on rent or free rent or anything I just want to live where I live and by using as much things on him so that we can stay. The problem is is that we have 2 landlords that own the place and we have no lease or receipts for paying the rent. Our rent is supposed to be 725 but when they had slummed on their maintenance of not doing the snow plowing because our car would get stuck daily, not having a proper mailbox we started paying 700 a month to one landlord and he said nothing now that we pay the other landlord he wants the full 725 because now that I am back at work from maternity leave they now want the extra 25$ that we haven't been paying ...it's pretty messed up because there're other factors also...we would move but for the size of place we have it's cheap
Even if you are right it still does not help your case. It will not entitle you to back rent or free rent or stop you from getting evicted. He will just have to fix it,

My son got his ear pierced on Sunday with a small hoop. When he went to school on Monday he was sent to the principals office and I was called and told that the school frowns against hoop earrings and although the piercing is acceptable the hoop is not. I went to the school and asked for the dress code and a lady that works in the office asked to stay nameless but stated that a girl has never been sent to the office because of her earrings.
We were not happy about it but did replace the hoop with a stud on Monday night.
On Tuesday my son went back to school and informed me that girls in his glass have hoop earrings.
We are trying to get information from LAUSD but so far there is nothing that states this is wrong. The schools explanation was that it is a safety hazard which we can understand but what is the difference of a girl wearing hoops or a boy wearing them?
My son is 9 years old and in 4th grade. I do need some advice but please no rude comments about my sons earring.
I guess to each his own. My son wanted the earring he is a good kid with wonderful grades and a great Big Brother. What is wrong with an earring? Does it really cause any problems. NO! It does not stop anyone from learning!
Early on in life I am teaching my son that discrimination is NOT ok and that he needs to stand up for what he believes in.
Keep in mind there are 4th graders out there shooting at people. My son is not one of those kids. He is an A student and loves to play sports. He is an "all American boy". He worked hard to get where he is and I support his decisions.
OK after thinking about it lets change the material but keep the subject. What if your daughter was allowed to stay in AC during the summer months because she is a girl BUT your son is sent out too play in the 110 degree whether because he is a boy and can handle it? Same point.
Thank you momof4. That is my point it is not necessarily the earring that we are fighting for because we changed it right away. It is the point that there should not be different rules based on gender. AND there is no written rule that we can find!
There isn't anything wrong with your son wanting an earring. What is the big deal, I say.
It looks like your school has a double-standard and I would love to see this go up against the school-board. When it comes down to it, it's okay for girls and not boys and there is something wrong with that. Don't let them bully you. It's his style, your okay with it, and that should be the end. It's not like he's wearing offensive clothing (shirts with foul language, jeans with holes where you can see his undies, etc).
Your son will learn a lot more if you stand up for him than if you tell him he has to conform because of someone else's uptight rules.
