Toddler Child Safety with entertainment system with glass?
Gearing up for the Maiden Voyage

I would like to know if anyone could provide me with information on child safety. I am having trouble finding something to go over my tv entertainment system class door. She likes to open it and play with the sateille dish and etc. I was wondering if there's I could put around the glass door. I also have a question about the dishwasher, is there something I could put on the door to prevent her to switching the door latch thing. I would really appericate this information. Thank you and have a nice day.

Lydia

I would honestly take the glass doors off until shes a little older. The last thing you want is for her to trip and fall into it.

As far as the diswasher goes - just keep her out of the kitchen. Its not a safe place for children. Thats what I did with my now 7 year old. I still will not allow her in the kitchen while I'm cooking (and that goes for my 11 year old nephew too).

A child safety lock for a glass tv cabinet door?
Franciscocardweb

Ive been looking online and cant seem to find a safety lock for the glass door part of my tv cabinet. Its the type that you push in the corner of the door once to lock and once again to unlock. Has anyone seen a lock for this anywhere?
Thanks so much to both of you!!!!!!!!!!!

YES!! I looked Forever for one of these.
Let me get the link I know exactly what your talking about
**OK I got mine at Target, if you have a Target in your area they don't have them online but in the store, its a multi-purpose latch
I put one ontop of the entertainment center like by where you push to unlock it and then one on the side that opens about halfway down b/c my son can still kinda open it with just the one on top

has health & safety [legislation] gone mad ?

Health and safety often gets bad press [children have to wear safety glasses to play conkers / trapeze artists must wear safety helmets etc....] In fact, you might be forgiven for wondering how anything actually gets done ?

or is it just our media's "sensationalisation" again [and in fact it is just pure fiction] ?

I think H&S is responding to the ridiculous compensation culture which the UK seems to have adopted. Without the H&S rules the publicly run institutions are more susceptible to being sued for ridiculous reasons.

I'm not saying I agree with it though - some of the legislation is silly.

Why are cars required to have airbags?

I know the answer to that but I mean in relation to motorcycle safety. My car needs front and rear impact bumbers, steel re-inforced side beams, lap and shoulder belts, front and side air bags, safety glass etc. And a child needs to be in a booster seat until they're 80 or 90 lbs. Yet a motorcycle has no built in safety devices (aside from the operator), you don't need to wear a helmet (some states) and you can just strap your kid onto the back and say "hang on".

Without getting into an argument over bad drivers/cyclists, can someone explain this to me?
- The question isn't about why cars have air bags (read the first line) it's why are'nt motorcycles subject to the same department of transportation and government safety guidelines!

When you drive a motorcycle then you have to get a special license and take a special class. By doing this you have effectively signed a release form saying that if anything bad happens to you then nobody, but you is responsible for the lack of safety equipment on that motorcycle.

If you drive a motorcycle you take your life in your own hands. Since it was once legal to drive them and people owned them the DMV is reluctant to make them illegal. They try to make sure that people know how to drive motorcycles and are as safe as possible, but that is the limit to what they can do.

Tom Cruise likes to ride his motorcycle, however he can't do it when he is making a motion picture. The motion picture company's insurance company considers that to be too dangerous. If Tom Cruise is in an accident and production shuts down then that can cost millions of dollars a day. The insurance company will not pay for that, so they demand that Mr. Cruise's contact, for the movie roll, says that he cannot ride his motorcycle while he is filming the movie. He did anyway. This is also why movie companies don’t like their big stars trying to do their own stunts, which Mr. Cruise also does.

Recently, an American Football star was driving his motorcycle, during the summer, before the season began. He was riding without a helmet and had an accident. He messed up his leg and was put into the hospital. When the football team that had his contract found out about this there was a big worry that they would kick him off the team for doing that. He was doing something considered very dangerous and his professional football team could have canceled his contract for it. He got better, and was able to play that season so the team didn't cancel his contract, but you can bet they told him to get rid of that motorcycle or they would cancel his contract.

I’ve wanted to talk about the children in my life right now for a few days. We may not be parents but we do have quite a number of children who are a part of our lives. My sister has two children (6 and 3) but I’ve only met the older one because they live so far away. Plane tickets are expensive and I don’t get much time off work. Very sad. The children we are closest to in our lives are the daughters belonging to my friend (she is also my husband’s cousin). The girls are 5 and 3. We see them a couple of times a week usually and we often have dinner with them on the weekends. We went on a vacation with them last year. When we don’t see the girls, we really start missing them. They are such a big part of our lives. They are very much like nieces to us. The two girls are so different in personality but such wonderful and interesting girls. There are other children that we a less involved with but still regular – the children in our neighbourhood. We are so blessed to live in a neighbourhood where the neighbours all interact with each other. We all know each other by name and we all talk almost daily during the warm months because we all like to sit outside. This has really fostered the type of community where everyone watches everyone else’s children. My husband and I like doing work in the yard. We can’t do anything in our yard without at least one child showing up to “help”, complete with a shovel, gloves, and safety glasses. It’s cute, but can be very annoying. Suddenly there are little fingers that we need to be mindful of. The children also tend to ask way too many questions and that gets old fast. But at the same time, I treasure it. It makes me feel so special that these children have chosen to come hang out with me. I get the pleasure of watching these child grow, learn, and develop. It’s special. So I don’t live a completely childless life – I just have a childless house. There is a “bedroom” with no bed, no crib, no photos, no toys, no paint…. just odds and ends of things needing a place to be stored. That room makes me feel sad. It’s an empty spot in my house that is a reflection of an empty spot in my heart. An empty spot that became much more prominent after miscarrying a baby a year and a half ago.
