Reading glasses - doctor visit required?

I have to admit there are times, like when reading cat food labels, that I could benefit from a pair of reading glasses. Can I just get a pair from Walgreen's or is there really a reason I need to go to the eye doc? If there is a reason, please tell me in detail. I'm not wasting time and money for no good reason.

I'm 42 dammit. This question is costing me more than 5 points.

LOL...welcome to reading glass crowd.

No problem with the cheap readers to start with, for occaissional use. But you may not find them all that comfortable for your eyes if you like to read a lot.

A visit to the eye doc every 2 years is a good idea anyway though.

Your eyes may not be the same, or there could be a small amount of astigmatism that should be corrected.

But, if you see well enough with the Walgreen readers for now, it can't do any harm.

i was prescribed reading glasses yesterday they are only .50 can that small?

of a prescription actually benefit me? i kinda feel like maybe he was just trying to get a few more bucks from me, i DO suffer everyday from eyestrain but im not really on the computer that much so i dont know that it could really help me to start wearing these while i read. what is your opinion on this? can .50 actually do anything?
i might remind you that when you buy reading glasses in a drugstore the smallest level of magnification or whatever it is is something like 1.25 ...... .50 cant even be bought .

of course it can still do something. why would you go to somebody to get checked out, if your not going to accept their expert opinion. its like going to a dentist, finding out you need a filling, and then telling him that no, you don't need a filling, because you say so.

My sister has the worst vision I have ever seen. She is 56 yrs old. Would she benefit from Lasic surgery.?

She has worn glasses since she was in the 1st grade. When I tested them once, it about made me vomit because her lenses are so strong. She takes her glasses off and uses the highest power reading glasses available to offer to do things like read music notes etc. She loaned my dad a pair once and he couldn't see shit. She don't dare drive at nite. She has always had terrible vision, so I am sure she is used to it by now. Can any kind of surgery be done to help her?

Most ophthalmologists offer a free screening to see if you are a candidate for LASIK. Many factors are involved...nearsighted, far sighted, does the person have a thick or thin cornea?

There will be a corneal mapping done plus a refraction to see what your visual accuity is.

If the doctor says you are a candidate, it's a go and all you have to do is get scheduled for the surgery and pay the fee.

Why are there health benefits to some alcohol daily?

Ok, so we know that binge drinking and taking shots and stuff is bad for your liver and what not, but i've read everywhere that 1 or 2 beers or glasses of wine daily has health benefits. what's in the alcohol that makes it good for you?

Red Wine has some chemicals that have been shown to be good for your heart,

Real beer is full of nutrients, it is drinking liquid bread. By real beer, I mean something heavy, not just bud light.

What Type of red wine is best to drink for anti-aging benefit?

I've been reading about the anti-aging benefits of having a glass of red wine everyday but haven't found any suggestions as to what type of red wine is best to drink. I've read that wines high in tannins and wines made from muscadine grapes are better, but does anyone know which type of wines have high tannic value or use muscadine grapes? Funny how so many health articles talk about "red wine" without specifying the type.

Cabernet

But, the alcohol counter acts anti aging, because it causes faster aging.

That's why they say drink in moderation.

All aging is, is the rusting of the cells which in turn, make copies of yourself that are flawed.

If you want to keep your cells from rusting you eat a variety of raw fruits and vegetables every day and you include phytochemical supplements.

Stay away from foods that make you age quickly, like refined sugars, MSG, processed foods, artificial sweeteners, etc.

Alcohol converts to sugars very easily.

Eat whole foods, raw foods, and supplement with anti aging supplements and exercise to keep your lean muscle and bone, because lack of exercise also causes faster aging.

I just drink red wine on a Friday or Saturday but not evey day and I look 15 years younger than my age because of my eating habits.

Advantages Of Plastic Frame Bifocal Reading Glasses

When we get a pair of plastic frame bifocal reading glasses, there are several advantages that are available. The first aspect is clear vision provision. As widely known by the public, bifocal reading glasses provide more help than regular reading glasses. Those conventional reading glasses can only offer clear vision for people who have presbyopia within the near vision zone. In other words, a pair of ordinary reading glasses is designed to provide vision correction on close up objects. The things that are beyond the near vision range are out of the control by a single pair of reading spectacles. One fact associated with most of the presbyopic elder individuals is that they still suffer from nearsightedness which formed probably in their childhood or at a young age. Nearsightedness as a form of refractive error is beyond the capability of regular reading glasses which do not have corresponding power. This makes the magic function of bifocal reading glasses exceptionally notable. In addition...
