Try reading "Feathertop" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It's all about a witch who brings a scarecrow to life and he's passed off as a man to the daughter of a man who scorned the witch when they were younger.
Also, if you can somehow find it (and I wish you luck on doing so), try Paul Green's "The Lost Colony." The play is preformed every summer at the Fort Raliegh National Historic Site's Waterside Theater on Roanoke Island, NC and is all about the Roanoke Colony. Green, a native of North Carolina, also wrote the Pulitzer winning play "In Abraham's Bossom," which you'll probably be more likely to find a copy of.
Edit: Sorry, Percy Mackaye turned Hawthorne's "Feathertop" into the play "The Scarecrow." I keep associating the name of the short story with the play since the latter is based on the formerer. So naturally I want "Feathertop" to be the name of the play. Anyway, here's a link for the play.

Heres the problem I got a number from a 22yrs women, she had to ask this older women for permission which I'm guessing she lives with her grandmother. Here are the issues.
1. I called twice the next day at 3:45pm then 5:45pm.
2. I cant leave a message, instead a automatic voice messanger comes on saying "Sorry voice message is unavilble, please call back later thankyou"
3. She is 22 so I figure since during the day "propably at work" she didn't pick up maybe I should call around 8:45pm or 9pm is that alright?
4. Sorry if I may sound ignorant, but this women is Mexican American and I'm African American. I serious wonder if her Mother or Grandmother is not telling her that I'm calling. NOTE: The older women she was with seemed kind of mean, The reason why I say that is because I said by and have a nice day to both women and the older one just stared at me without a reply back or smile....propably she felt as if I was only "acting" like I was a gentlemen and judge me by my look "braids, gucci reading glasses, timberland boots and erring on the side ETC"....I had a cotton botton to the top polo shirt, the pants where justa little bit baggy not too baggy but I came up to her with nothing but respect and even told the older women sorry if I caused any interruption.
What do you think and When should I call this beautiful young women I met?
Short answer, call her when she's home. Finding out when that might be could be a problem. You're on the right track though, with varying your call times. The general rule is to not call more than once a day. Twice a day isn't that bad, though.
A LOT of women get off on getting called, and not picking up. It may not make sense, but it is true. She may have re-interpreted something you said, her grandmother may be interfering, or any number of things may be going on. Life is too short to get hung up on one woman who apparently "has issues". Call in a couple days if you want, but don't get hung up on her.

My son found a coin in the dirt in our backyard. It looks really, really old. The only thing is it doesn't have a denomination on it. It has the following wording:
American Louis Phillipe famous as a tariff advocate congressman vice president upon Taylor's death passed fugitive slave bill. 1850-1853 Millard Filmore 13 President.
It's alot of words and the coin is in pretty good shape. Words had to be read through a magnifying glass.
Coin is currently in a glass of soda to try to clean it up a little.
Does anybody know what the history is behind this coin and how much it's worth?
Thanks in advance!
Well first of all it is not a coin, it is a medal. I believe it is the President Millard Filmore side that is the obverse. The other side is something that happened during his presidency, which by the way was not much. They had to dig deep for Louis Phillipe part. Medals of presidents have been made for a long time by a lot of companies including Shell oil. The soda is not a good idea for it will damage the coin even more. Try a very soft tooth brush to get the dirt off. If there is corrosion then removing it will leave a hole in the medal where it was. There are so many medals out there one would need just a large library of books on medals, I have a library but it is on coins. Try answerman2@aol.com he writes a column for Numismatic News on answering question like you have. Try Him, he may require a scan of it or may know exactly what medal it is. Sorry this is the best I can do.

I have very high myopia( -6 in both eyes).I use glasses. Now I came to know from the website of American Vision Institute that using my regular glasses for reading purpose is harmful and it would deteriorate my eye sight further. They suggest that for reading purpose only I should use a pair of glasses that gives 20/40 vision at a distance of 20 inch. Should I follow this advice? How far is this method effective? Is there any alternative instead of using 2 different specs? Eye specialists please reply.
You should make a appointment with your local opticians.
I know they sell them on Fredflare.com, but it's american. I don't mind shipping in Canada, but I don't want the international shipping fee. Thanksss (:
Hey I live in Toronto area too and I buy my glasses from http://optical4less.com they offer free shipping if you buy 2 pairs of glasses. BUT their glasses are very cheap so I bought a pair of sunglasses and a pair of normal reading glasses. I find their quality is one of the best online so I would highly recommend it to you too.

Bifocal Reading Glasses and Their Technological Development
The American man of scientific discipline, Ben Franklin, who endured both nearsightedness as well as presbyopia, invented bifocal reading glasses in 1784 to obviate having to frequently alternate between 2 frames of glasses.
The 1st lenses designed for rectifying astigmia were constructed by the British stargazer George Airy in the year 1825.
Along the history of benjamin franklin bifocals , the development of pectacle frames also evolved. Early on oculars were designed to be either kept in place with your hand or by maintaining force on the nose. Girolamo Savonarola advised that oculars could be held in place with a ribbon placed over a person’s head, which in turn was fastened by the weight of a hat.
Entering modern bifocal history, the contemporary fashion of bi-focal reading glasses supported by temples passing over the ears, was produced in 1727 by the British lens maker Edward Scarlett. These designs were not instantly prosperous, however, and various styles with attached handles like “scissors-glasses” and lorgnettes stayed fashionable throughout the eighteenth and into the early nineteenth century.
