hey folks,
i have previously asked about bifocal lenses for Reading ( like the large part of the lens being just clear glass and the little section in the bottom being my reading prescription). My mum has went and asked at my local optician and the woman there (who isn't an optician) said that it not recommended to someone of my age ( im 14, nearly 15)
so i was wondering, is there any reason why i CANT get these bi focal Lens 'cause i keep losing my normal reading glasses so i thought id be best i was to be wearing glasses at all time, and id also like them as a fashion accessory.
Bifocals are usually recommended for those people who are around 40 years of age. This is because at around this age, we all start losing the ability to focus up close (a condition called presbyopia in which the lens inside of our eye can no longer focus).
There are a few reasons why bifocals aren't recommended to those who just need a prescription for reading.
1. They are more expensive.
2. They are hard to get used to. It is difficult at first to move just your eyes, not your head, when switching focus from far (the top part of the lens) to near (the bottom part of the lens).
3. Most people do not think they are appealing.
An eye doctor must write a prescription for bifocals, and he may not see it in your best interest.

My girlfriend really enjoys reading. So for Christmas, I've been putting together a bunch of things for her (a soft, cozy blankey, a bunch of books, a bottle of wine [she normally drinks a glass while reading], a yankee candle [she normally lights candles while reading], and an ipod docking station [she listens to her ipod while reading]). I think I need to get her a couple more things, but I'm running out of books to buy, and really can't think of anything else to compliment it.
I was thinking about a book light, but I don't know that she'd use it. I also considered some personalized book ends or something.
Any more ideas?
Aww, you're sweet!
That sounds like enough, but the bookends sound nice, bookmarks- they sell pretty ones, maybe a soft, down pillow, some nice pajamas or comfy yoga pants...anything that says relaxation and comfort.

i know that you can get reading glasses, but i'm looking for something more as just an accessory. i really love the look of glasses but i need something i can see both near and far. i also want something with a reasonable price range. any tips are loved ♥
You can just buy the frames at the eye doctor (Wal-mart Vision Center) & just have them put plan glass in them
Okay, so I'm around 13 years old. I have the scene look. I have the hair and everything. My vision is at it's worst. I'm about to go get new glasses, and new frames and everything. I am around 20/400, if it matters or anything. I know that the really big square framed thick black nerd glasses are in now, and I like the look of them a lot. This week, maybe even tomorrow, I am going to go get glasses. And I'm wondering if I should get prescription nerd glasses, not for an accessory or for fun or anything. For my real glasses. Because the thing is, this may go out of style soon. I really like the style. And also, if I don't get them, and I get regular glasses, I won't be able to wear the fake glasses that much, I have to wear my real glasses all the time. Also, if I don't get them, if you can give a specific link to the kind of glasses I should get. I will give you a link to what I look like in a minute. My sister has the wire ones. I DON'T like the smaller version of nerd glasses. Like..the square frame ones but thinner. And I'm not a big fan of wire frame ones. I'm not sure on what to get, I'm having a big deal of trouble.
I'm going to give you a few links to pictures of the kind of nerd glasses I'm talking about.
I'm going to give you a link to a few pictures of me.
And from that, please give a very detailed and specific answer, with links and pictures if you can.
"Whatever you like is good" is not an answer.
I need opinions, not anybody avoiding the question.
"Yeah they'd look good" is not an answer.
Please, I need quick answers.
Don't say
"I don't like the nerd glasses style. Don't get it"
It doesn't matter if you don't like the style, I do. Think as if you liked the style.
Give me some good advice, please.
It would really help a lot.
Nobody has been able to help me
and I'm really in loss of what I'm supposed to do.
Okay, so here are the links:
NERD GLASSES I'M TALKING ABOUT:

The second one..ehh. Not a very good one, but I wanted to put up a second picture.
Here is me and my sister, my sister is on the right, and you can see her wire framed glasses:

And I do not mean this:

or those weird ones like:
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee126 /Kelsey44xoxo/glasses.jpg
and not circle framed and with the second little line like:

i mean, not any more circle than that.
the scene nerd kind.
haha i think you get it now.
sorry for all the links,
I didn't want anyone getting the wrong idea,
because glasses where I'm getting them aren't cheap
They aren't reading glasses or anything.
mmkay, thank you (:
I think, specifically on you, the "nerd" glasses would work very well especially with the spacing of your eyes and the size of your nose.
Just browsing the "Lens Crafters" website, assuming money is not much of an object, I found somethings I believe resemble what you are talking about:

*Edit* You shouldn't be afraid to browse the men's frames as well. A big part of the look is getting frames larger than your face which would be more likely in the men's section. I just browsed the plastic men's frames and found things resembling much more closely to what you are referring. I didn't put up the links just now because, quite frankly, I'm lazy.
I don't they resemble what you want too closely, but it's what I could find. From browsing, I noticed a tendency to have the top part of the frames stick out somewhat, like the sort of late 50s, 60s look. For you, I wouldn't go for that. You should try to find something more round.
On a practical note, large glasses are the way to go if you can pull it off. I hate looking at a banner above me, or just at the TV and not have my glasses cover my range of vision. Since your vision is so awful, this sort of thing would probably be particularly important.

Compact And Folding Reading Glasses Good Alternatives For All
Our eye doctor will prescribe reading glasses for us if we have some problems on reading. Reading glasses can be helpful for us while reading or doing any other nearby takes. Judged from their functions, reading glasses are fallen into two types, say, full frame and half frame reading glasses. The first type is suitable for those who have to read for very long hour. While using those glasses, we can not see objects afar clearly. Because some revolutions and innovations are ushered into reading glasses, compact and folding glasses become available as a result. There are glasses than can help solve the above-mentioned embarrassment. Those glasses are very tiny and can be put into our purses, or pocket. Or we can also buy some fashionable cases that can protect the glasses.
