According to the AR:

"Conservative prescription and nonprescription sunglasses are authorized for wear when in a garrison environment,
except when in formation and while indoors. Individuals who are required by medical authority to wear
sunglasses for medical reasons other than refractive error may wear them, except when health or safety considerations
apply. Soldiers may not wear sunglasses in the field, unless required by the commander for safety reasons in highglare,
field environments.
(3) Restrictions on eyeglasses and sunglasses. Eyeglasses or sunglasses that are trendy, or have lenses or frames
with initials, designs, or other adornments are not authorized for wear. Soldiers may not wear lenses with extreme or
trendy colors, which include but are not limited to, red, yellow, blue, purple, bright green, or orange. Lens colors must
be traditional gray, brown, or dark green shades. Personnel will not wear lenses or frames that are so large or so small that they detract from the appearance of the uniform. Personnel will not attach chains, bands, or ribbons to eyeglasses.
Eyeglass restraints are authorized only when required for safety purposes. Personnel will not hang eyeglasses or
eyeglass cases on the uniform, and may not let glasses hang from eyeglass restraints down the front of the uniform."

There you go, chapter and verse.

Are there restrictions on watches in the army?
Abd El-Rahman El-Naggar - The Mediterranean

I just enlisted in the army and I NEED a watch or I feel naked. I was just wondering if you can have watches in the army or not? I'm pretty sure after basic and maybe AIT you can have them but other than that I don't know. Does anybody know if you can have them in basic, and if you can have them in general does it have to be a certain style or color. My recruiter said that if you have sun glasses they can't be a name brand or have the name brand on them. So just wondering if the same thing goes for watches. Thank you.

Your fairly safe after basic. During basic it could be a local thing, they might not care or they might. Jewelry is on the do not bring list followed by a statement that exspensive watches are hard to safe guard:

1–14. Wear of jewelry
a. Soldiers may wear a wristwatch, a wrist identification bracelet, and a total of two rings (a wedding set is
considered one ring) with Army uniforms, unless prohibited by the commander for safety or health reasons. Any
jewelry soldiers wear must be conservative and in good taste. Identification bracelets are limited to medical alert
bracelets and MIA/POW identification bracelets. Soldiers may wear only one item on each wrist.
b. No jewelry, other than that described in paragraph 1–14a, above, will appear exposed while wearing the uniform;
this includes watch chains, or similar items, and pens and pencils. The only authorized exceptions are religious items
described in para 1–7b, above; a conservative tie tack or tie clasp that male soldiers may wear with the black four-inhand
necktie; and a pen or pencil that may appear exposed on the hospital duty, food service, CVC, or flight uniforms.

The paste is from AR 670-1. Each commander can do what he wants. Take one that matches the subued style others have suggested and do not pay much. If they do confiscate it you will likley get it back at the end.

I can state beyond doubt that you will not need it. You will be awakened by human alarm clocks or a gaggle of Drill Sargents exercising their vocal cords and swinging broomsticks on the metal bed frames. AAAHHH the memories!!!

Here's a little preview of what is to come:

They say that in the Army
The Chow is mighty fine
A biscuit rolled off the table
And killed a friend of mine

Some folks don't like my preview of Army Basic! Don't think it has changed too awful much since Dino Days, I even throw in a little butt chewing...no extra charge

It might go a little like this:

Up before the sun.
30 minutes max for the 3 S's ($h!t, shower, shave) sometimes the shower is the night before.
Formation.
A little PT
Chow
Draw weapons if going to range
Formation
Double time to training site

Double time back to barracks
Stack weapons
Post guards
Chow
Clean weapons if drawn
Have weapon inspected
Turn in weapon

"DROP AND GIVE ME 20"

Keep the pie hole shut and listen.

Think out your questions...it's the Army...do not appear that you were not paying attention!!!

Do not point at food and ask WTF is that:
If it is a green looking meat like substance that is "Mystery meat". Chow down it's very good for you!
If it looks like lumpy burnt oatmeal it's SOS.
If the SOS is poured over a hockey puck...that is a biscuit!
If it is yellow and dry it is cake. Just stick it in a glass of milk, it will be fine.
If it is brown and poured over rice it is chili.....maybe...could be gravy made from left over bacon grease.

You think it will make you fat???

NO PROBLEM! I will just PT you until your legs are wore off to the knee's and your arms to the elbow!!!

ARE WE CLEAR???

WELL ARE WE???

GOOD!

Close enough anyway!

A premature welcome to "The Club"!

I have to save this in "word" so I can retrieve it more "quickerly" (a word invented by a very cute short lady)

Military Eyesight Requirements?
I Fell Later XD

I was born to be in the military and i've noticed that my eyesight is becoming more and more blurry and when i tried on my brother's glasses today i could see better. After this years eye exam i think i'm going to have to get glasses. Now i don't want to not be able to join the army. What can i do? Is laser surgery an option? What about those athletic glasses that i see kids wearing or what about medicated sun glasses to reduce light shining off the lenses. I want to be special forces so i need to know my options.

You're fine. If glasses fix the problem, that's all that matters. Not that your vision has to be CORRECTABLE to 20/20. That means that if glasses work for you, you're golden. They'll issue you glasses. Just get an eye exam done with your eye doctor before hand so you have a good prescription ready to go.

This will not effect your ability to be in special forces.

Not exclusively; are they enormously reasonable, giving protection from rays of the sun, they are an immensely multi-purpose fashion accessory, out there throughout a huge change of colors, styles and costs to satisfy each pocket. Sunglasses producing has become very profitable, on the other hand it is highly competitive business. Although some producers rise and decline in the general public fondness, there is one company that goes on to be eternally synonymous with the eyeglasses that protect our eyes from the rays of the sun. That is Ray-Ban. Despite Us President, Benjamin Franklin, is commonly believed with developing eyeglasses, in fact the primary reading glasses were invented in Italy, as early as 1260. People kept being captivated by all things optical during the centuries that followed, afterwards, in the mid-eighteen, British scientist James Ayscough began to research tinted glass and the possibility that such technology could be used to raise vision impaired eyesight,. He was successful in some degree. After 1929, the concept that glasses might filter the sun’s rays.It was given any serious consideration. During that period, U.S. optical company, Foster Grant, began to develop the idea more, later that same year, the first sunglasses were sold from a Woolworth’s store on the Atlantic Town boardwalk. Ray-Ban had been U.S. eyeglass company. Using the newly polarized lenses, and a wide frame that provided highest protection from the shine of an instrument panel, Ray-Ban began to supply a lens that banned the sun’s rays in 1936. 3 years later, this model of sunglasses therefore in style with pilots, became readily out there to the Yankee public. So Ray-Ban ‘aviators’ were born. Similarly Americans came off from ages, so too did their eyewear. During war years, Ray-Ban went on its operating partnership with the Air Force, producing Gradient mirror lenses that achieved to be each highly practical and trendy at the same time. There was one thing concerning that Yank flyer in his powerful brown leather flight jacket, whose sunglasses hid his eyes. Ray-Ban had just created its sexy sunglasses. It was ubiquitous in the 1950’s. Sunglasses became supplemental than just eye- protection. They had been worn by a-list celebrities in Vegas and Hollywood -stars whose each move was investigated and emulated everywhere in the country. Sunglasses became a fashion accent and Ray-Ban was fast to adapt itself into the growing trend for brand new styles and colorful frames, that they especially marketed to girls. The corporate developed shatterproof lenses in the 1960’s and the acknowledgment of sunglasses continued to rise when fashion icon Jackie Kennedy was typically seen along with her trademark, outsized frames.Sunglasses were taking an important part on any actor’s costume on the silver screen, with movie stars like Peter Fonda and Audrey Hepburn, enjoying fashionable, sunglass wearing, characters who were in a position to hide their eyes from the audience and stay influential. Funky and retro, trendy and fashionable, Ray-Ban remains at the foremost part of sunglass producing till today. Without any doubt, the company will continue to have stamina in the trade, because throughout the years it has developed itself day by day and  allowed people particularly about what they want for their eyes Ray-Ban gives reliable protection of a hi-tech pair of prescription sunglasses, and the extreme ‘cool’ of a damn sexy try of shades.
