Leaving for the Army and no eye glasses.?

I am leaving for the Army in 6 days and I wear contacts. I do not own a pair of eye glasses. I know I can't wear contacts at Basic. So how long after getting there will I be issued my BCG's (the military issued glasses)?

It happens pretty fast. No worries, you will get them in plenty of time for marksmanship training.

Eye contacts and eye surgery?

Ok I am vey insecure about glasses. I dont know why, but I just HATE wearing them. I just hate the nerd stero type and it is kind of a disability. It just gets me mad not having good eye sight. I cant see shit, yet I still never wear them. But going into the army, ill be required in bootcamp.

So im wondering, right out of bootcamp, and into AIT. Can I get free eye contacts issued by the army? and where do i get them?

Another thing, does the army pay for eye surgery?

Eye surgery is an elective surgery meaning that after getting to your duty station you can go put your name on a waiting list to get it done by military doctors who need training. You'll wait two years and then you can get your eye surgery. Yeah you're gonna look like a moron in the issued glasses but so will plenty of other boot campers. After your done getting hazed 24/7 ie get to your duty station where you will be hazed 20/6 you can go buy contacts with your own money. The military needs you to see and they don't care if you look pretty doing it.

Vision problems doctor says im 20/40 but i disagree?

I found out my eyes were bad at random by putting on my dads army issue glass's he had from like 15 years ago just to see what i would look like. To my amazement i noticed i could see more color/detail in everything like carpet/clothing and i can see cars better at night in the parking lot. After messing around i found my left eye was vastly better then my right eye.

I went to the doctor and he said i have 20/40 vision in both eyes. However i disagree with him. If i put my computer monitor for example like 2 feet away from my face and cover my left eye with a book. I cant read a single word with my right eye, every word is blurry. When i cover my right eye i can read everything even small print easily. I took the book off and i noticed no change in what i was see'ing. Somehow my bad right eye isnt effecting me when i read. That might be why i never knew i had bad vision.

So my question is why do i have 20/40 in Both eyes if my left eye can read everything even at long distances and fine print. While my right eye cant ? Somehow it seems me like i have 20/30 or 20/20 in my left eye and right eye is just the bad one.

Also is it normal to have 1 eye much worse then the other like i mentioned ? I mean even the letters from my typing right here are blurry arms length on my right eye but my left is zero issues i can read it easily. Also is it normal for the bad eye to not even be noticed when you have both open ? Like when my left eye is open i dont notice anything blurryness that i get with my right eye.

Is it normal to go from 20/20 at 14 years old to 20/40 at 23 ? I wish i knew why my vision went bad so fast.
Is was some doctor a eyeglass store. Hour eyes or something i forgot the name. I sat in this chair and had some air shot on my eyes to get some glocoma reading i think, then i sat in another chair and he made me read letters reflected off the wall in a mirror.

The 20/40 figure simply means that you can see at 20 feet what a person with perfect vision would be able to distinguish at 40 feet. You also likely suffer from astigmatism in your right eye, which is a defect in the shape of the lens or cornea that can prevent proper focusing of that eye.

It would be nice if doctor's explained this stuff rather than kicking you out of the chair and yelling "Next!"

What are the visual requirements for the United States Military Academy at West Point?

The Academy statement reads that as long as vision is 20/20 correctable (such as with glasses or contacts, I assume) then your good. But on the other hand, I have read that contact lenses are not available in the field or in training (such as Beast Barracks). I would really not like to wear Army Issued Glasses, or BCG's, as they are called, not necessarily for the looks but because they appear clunky and yes, I admit, unattractive. So I guess I'm wondering if contact lenses are available to wear at all times at the Academy, or if I will need to wear those darn glasses.

By the way, my vision is nearsightedness somewhere around 20/45 in my left eye, and around 20/55 in my right eye without any aid. With contacts or glasses, I'm right at 20/20.

And considering a future in the Army, I also would like to wear my contacts, or have LASIK eye surgery. I'm not sure however if LASIK would be my best option considering my vision isn't all that bad.

Sorry for all the questions
Thanks again

Your vision is fine for West Point.

You can wear contacts except during Cadet Basic Training, at which time you get to wear BCG's 8)

  • 10 Most Underrated Inventions !!!! | Urban Titan

    Share

The TV, the telephone, the computer, the iPod – all have been lauded as the greatest invention of all time. However, there are some inventions that come into our daily lives and yet hardly ever get considered. Below is a list of such objects, gadgets and apparatuses that make up the list of top ten most underrated inventions (you can decide which order you’d have them in).

    1. Can Opener

When the zip was first introduced to the fashion world it’s name was quite a mouthful: the Continuous Clothing Closure.  However, the delightfully named Gideon Sundback invented the modern version in 1917 and gave it an alternative mouthful of a name: the Hookless Fastener No. 2. The winning name as it stands today was taken from the sound effect it makes in action and was thought up by a marketing group called B.F. Goodrich.
