My eyesight is terrible. It's not due to any health problems or and deformities or anything. My eyesight is just plain bad lol. I see 20/200 in each eye uncorrected.
I know you need 20/20 corrected to be able to go to Airborne School in the Army. Can the Army provide me with BCG glasses that will correct my eyes to 20/20 and let me go to Airborne School? I really want to be with 82nd Airborne. It's my life's dream.
So ultimately, am I eligible to go to Airborne School? Aside from the eye thing, my knees are in great shape, I can distinguish red from green, and my ears can pop.
Thanks!
PS. I am going in as 13D Field Artillery. I did NOT get Airborne School in my contract because they said I was disqualified from it for not having sufficient eyesight, but at the eye exam at MEPS, I was wearing glasses that had a REALLY old prescription and did NOT correct my eyesight to 20/20. And I can volunteer for Airborne School during Basic or AIT even though I didn't get it in my contract right?
Yeah I should have gone to MEPS with a more recent prescription I know. But wait, so am I eligible for Airborne School or not?
if there are glasses in the civilian world that can correct you to 20/20 then there are definately BCGs that can do so.
heres my advice though: get a better precription, then tell your recruiter that you wont leave without airborne school in your contract. he'll take you back to meps, probably grumbling the whole way about having to do extra paperwork, where you can retake the test and get it in your contract. your not technically in the army until you swear in a second time to leave for basic, so you can still change yoru contract or cancel it if u wish,.
airborne sometimes (SOMETIMES) sends recruiters to different OSUTs/AITs...but thats only when airborne units have a shortage of that particular MOS. its better to not leave it to chance. you could also get fort bragg in your contract as your duty station so you wont go to the airborne brigade from the 25th or the 173rd.
best of luck, keep your feet and knees together and twist before you land, not as you land like they try to have you do in airborne school...doesnt work, its why we do it differently at the 82nd

I'm 18 and I'm going to Army Basic on June 2nd as 13D Field Artillery. I really wanted Airborne school but I couldn't get it in my contract. My recruiter said that I can request it while I'm in Basic/AIT.
But my vision is REALLY bad. I'm nearsighted and I see 20/400 uncorrected and at MEPS, they could only correct my vision to 20/25(But the glasses I was using were a VERY old prescription and I KNOW for a fact that they didn't correct my eyesight to 20/20 when I wore them - the MEPS eye examiner assumed they did even though they didn't(Could I have gotten 20/20 on the exam if the examiner knew my prescription didn't correct my sight to 20/20?))
I don't have any health problems or disease of the eye or anything. My eyes are perfectly healthy, my eyesight is just bad. Just today I was looking up stuff about Airborne School and it said that I MUST see 20/20 corrected. I can only see 20/25(Unless my weak prescription was a factor that hurt my exam results).
When I go to reception before Basic, I'll tell the examiner that my prescription doesn't correct my vision to 20/20 and hopefully I'll get 20/20 corrected on the exam. But can I go to Airborne School?
Thanks!
get better glasses, go back to meps, and tell them you wont ship without airborne school in your contract. SOMETIMES the airborne recruiter comes by your school. thats only sometimes though, so its not garunteed.

i'm in the us army currently deployed to afghanistan. i usually wear contacts back in garrisson, but out here i'm wearing glasses.I heard somewhere that lasik eye surgery is free in the army?has anyone else heard about this or is it just a myth?everyone i ask doesnt seem to know..i'm in transportation field if that matters
I had Lasik done about 6 years ago and it was the best thing I have ever done. I have also heard they are not doing it anymore due to risk. When I had it done we had to sign a form of understanding that it (Lasik, not PRK) would exclude us from certain jobs (SF, Pilot, HALO).
And by the way, for those of you who are CLEARLY not in the military and have never been (andrew). Please stop trying to answer questions you have no idea about.
is my eye sight good enough to be in the australian army as a riflemen?
I has a minor case of astigma, meaning When I look at some things they can be a little double vision, but only on the thing I look at, and hardly noticable. Especialy if i was on the battle field lol.
My vision I think is around 20/40 Maby better and Im far sighed so I need computer glasses, But they are not needed, they are really just to prevent me from getting headaches.
Can I be in the australian army as a riflemen? or maby a commando?
cheers
Hey mate
The easiest way to answer your question would be to ring up your local defence force recruiting, they'd be only too happy to either 1) Have you see one of their in house doctors or 2) Ring around until they contacted someone who could answer your question.
However i believe that your eye sight is satisfactory for a rifleman, my eye sight isn't that great either, though being just short of needing glasses, and i had no problem during my enlistment phase. Even if you do need glasses and wear them they don't really hold you back in the least as long as they comply with Army Standards (basically they have to be black or green).
As for joining 4 RAR (Commando), wait till you've almost finished Kapuka before putting Inf down as your first Corp preferance. Be aware that Inf will see you cold, wet and very tired out in the field, although it is a hell of a lot of fun.
So in conclusion the best answer to your question would just be to ring up defence force recruiting, but off the top of my head i don't think that your current eye sight will be a problem.
Best of Luck mate if you really do go for it and if your lucky enough to be posted to Cavalry maybe you'll end up being one of my diggers one day.
So my husband just got all of his stuff from storage (he's in the Army) and while we were unpacking I found a little baby field mouse covered in fur, but eyes still closed, snuggling against a dead mother. I immediately put him in a little container with a cut up towel and wanted to save the little thing. As we continued to unpack we found 3 more of the babies huddled together in a box. We took those 3 and put them in a small plastic aquarium thing with pine bedding. I talked to a guy at the petsmart (but he couldn't have been more than 16) about what I should do with them. I'm keeping the one seperate so far because he was with the mom and if he is sick I don't want him to get the rest sick. They are too young to be set wild they will surely die. The guy gave me a kitten started kit with kitten formula in a little bottle, but so far they won't drink it. Their eyes are closed and I guess they don't recognize it. I tried to put in a Cheez-it to see what they would do, and they nibbled a little bit, but not much. Also, I think they have fleas. They look like fleas and are pretty good size compared to the baby mice, but looking online people thought they could be mites. How can I get rid of them on the babies, it's not like I can give them a flea bath. Also, we are really tight on money now, and I want to save their lives, but I can't go spend a couple hundred dollars at the vets. I've been doing a lot of research online and a lot of people think rescued baby mice makes great pets, and others say they can carry disease. I have been very careful to wash my hands everytime I handle them, and I don't let my 4 year old son touch them at all, just look through the glass. I want to save these little guys, but obviously not if they are going to harm my child, Does anyone have any experience with this? What can I do to get rid of the fleas and make them eat? With practicing safe handling are they still a threat to my son? Thanks!
Ok I looked up pictures online and they are mites, not fleas.
Congratulations and bless you for saving these little guys. I was in the same position a few months ago and I found lots of great information on this site:
http://mouseranch.com/
I also posted information and pictures of my experience here:
http://www.whitehall-michigan-pet-sittin g.com/wild-mice.html
Some points I learned:
When the mice were too small to drink from a dropper, I held a baby in my hand and put drops of milk in the crease of one finger. They gobbled it up at their own pace and I didn't have to worry about choking them or getting milk in their noses.
One they got older they ate a variety of foods such as dry oatmeal, bird seed, pumkpin seeds, sunflower seeds, small bits of fruit etc.
You didn't mention whether you have a screen on top of your aquarium but you'll want to get one fast. Once these guys start moving around they can jump really high and really fast. Mine loved to jump straight up and cling to the screen on top.
For bedding I would recommend either carefresh (very soft but also expensive) or aspen bedding as it is the only wood chip/shaving that doesn't contain oils that can cause respiratory problems.
I was working with a rehabilitator who recommended I put dirt and grass in the aquarium so they would be comfortable when I released them. However, if you're going to keep them then carefresh or aspen will be much easier to change.
As far as fleas, I don't know how to help with that since they are so young. Maybe someone at the Mouse Ranch can help. Mice can carry diseases but from what I understand the biggest danger is id their cages get dirty - then their little poos build up and get dry and it can be a breathing hazard.
Good luck! It was a fun, scary and exciting experience for me.

Army Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin – Patriot and Physician Refuses All ...
Press Release
DECORATED ARMY PHYSICIAN REFUSES ALL MILITARY ORDERS BECAUSE PRESIDENT REFUSES TO DOCUMENT HIS CONSTITUTIONAL ELIGIBILITY Court Martial Likely, Legal Defense Fund Established
Washington, D.C., March 30, 2010. “I am today compelled to make the distasteful choice to invite my own court martial, in pursuit of the truth about the president’s eligibility under the constitution to hold office”, said active duty Army Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin. The American Patriot Foundation, a non-profit group incorporated in 2003 to foster appreciation and respect for the U.S. Constitution, immediately announced it has set up a legal defense fund and will provide Lt. Col. Lakin with a top-flight defense team. Details are available on the foundation’s website, www.safeguardourconstitution.com .
Article II, sec. 1 of the U. S. Constitution explicitly provides that only “natural born” citizens can serve as president and commander-in-chief. Mr. Obama’s continuing refusal to release his original 1961 birth certificate has brought Lt. Col. Lakin to the point where he feels his orders are unlawful, and thus MUST be disobeyed.
