The View From Upper Lockjaw: All Is Splendid With Golf

It’s been gratifying this week to see so many people taking an interest in golf! At the airport yesterday, returning from our splendid little scamp down Bermuda way, I noticed that one of our game’s bright young talents, Mr. Tiger Woods, was gracing the cover of numerous magazines. That’s marvelous, although I do wish the magazines had chosen more upbeat photographs to use. Why the long face, Tiger? This young gentleman has the world by its tail (please pardon the pun!) and he ought to be portrayed that way. This year Mr. Woods won six tournaments on the PGA Tour. That’s top-drawer shooting no matter what your ethnicity is. Bravo, Mr. Woods!

Muffin pointed out (since I have little eye for such things) that many of the magazines featuring Mr. Woods were lighter fare publications that normally focus on “pop” figures from the motion picture and entertainment industries. I think it’s fine for average people to know more about our great game and its estimable new personalities. I say: Hooray for “pop” culture!
