i have a pair of a. j. morgan reading glasses, they are a bit magnified, is it ok to wear them occasionally just for fashion purposes? buying other glasses is out of the question, if not, where can i get them exchanged and glass lenses put in? how much would that cost? will wearing the reading glasses ruin my eyes if i only wear them occasionally?
I wouldn't recommend it, just because it would probably hurt your vision somewhat. If you go to an optometrist, they will probably be able to exchange the lenses. They have optical clinics at Walmart, Costco, etc. I would guess less than $30 for just clear glass lenses, since cheap prescriptions cost only around $70 and non-prescription glasses shouldn't be expensive. I'm not sure if i have perfect vision, when i was little i use to wear an eyepatch everyday because i have a lazy eye.....but i dont wear any glasses, or contacts, and i have no problems seeing or reading anything....
anyways i found these fashion reading glasses at CVS, for $15.00...and i wanna know will they ruin my eyes if i wear them once and a while for like 2 or 3 hours? just for fashion purposes. and im not about to get fake ones, i just wanted to buy these because they were right there. should I? Will they ruin my eyes?
Don't get them. The focal range for reading glasses is for about 18 inches usually. The stronger the number the closer the print will be held to the eye. And because you want to wear them for fashion, anything in the distance will be a big blur for you and may cause you to trip on the stairs ,etc. That is why they are called reading glasses, not for diving or TV etc. Plus it will also magnify the size of your eye to everyone else. Put a pair on in the store and you will see what I mean.
i was at walmart today and they had these "fashion reading glasses" that you could buy in different strengths like 1.25, 1.50, and so on. they had mine; +2.50. i wear contacts and ive been wanting to get glasses to wear when i dont have them in. but i didnt want to have to pay like 200 dollars for glasses. cant i just buy a pair of these cheap ones and use them as my glasses? on the back it said "these arent a substitute for doctor-prescribed lenses" but im like wtf why? isn't it the same thing as if i had a doctor prescribe me glasses in 2.50 power?
Yup, they're the same thing, at least in a superficial sense. I tend to tell my patients if or when they can use those cheap ones as a substitute, but not everyone does. Now, obviously the frames aren't as durable, and the lenses are a cheaper material (and usually aren't exactly perfect for your prescription; glasses prescriptions are different from contact lens prescriptions), but if you're using them as a backup for your contacts rather than wearing them 24x7, and as long as you've had an eye exam recently to check for an accurate prescription and eye health problems (which is why they have that disclaimer on them, by the way; they don't want to get sued if someone gets some horrible eye disease!), I'd say that's probably a pretty good idea.
