How many girls don't wear eyewear when tanning?

I always have racoon eyes and see girls with beautiful tans, but it's not even summer yet! I started wearing my eyewear for 1/3 of the time, and then taking it off and now my tan looks very nice. Is this what other girls are doing???

Yes. Some don't even wear them at all. However I would not recommend it because even with your eyes closed you can still burn your eyes because the skin on the eye lids is thin and cannot protect your eyes alone. What you are doing is ok as long as you do not do it every time you tan maybe every other time. Good luck and happy tanning =)

Best types of eyewear for indoor tanning?

I was given Podz Eyewear to use as a free gift from the tanning salon, and they also provide a pair of your typical red, solid eyewear in each bed. The Podz are dark but see-through, and make me a little nervous!

I know the risks of tanning, I just want to know if there is a type of eyewear that is recommended or if I should trust the Podz?

Winks are the best. They are two covers one for each eye and they only cover the eye which keeps you from looking like a raccoon. Best of luck and happy tanning=)

do you have to wear eyewear while tanning in a tanning bed?

I know the shop tells you you have to but that is to save their butts if anything happens. But I dont want raccoon eyes so I would rather not wear them every time.
I tan in a high pressure bed, there are uv a rays but no uv b rays, it is impossible to burn in this bed. So it is differnet than a normal tanning bed.

Yes. You definitely need to wear them EVERY time!
I go indoor tanning alot and have done my research because I also did not want to wear the glasses every time. But unfortunately it's something you should do. Closing your eyes or even putting a towel over your eyes is not enough. UV light can pass through all of these and damage your eyesight. You can see what it can do to your skin in only a matter of minutes, imagine what it can do to your eyes, which are extremely sensitive. I go tanning a lot and am quite dark and have never got racoon eyes. This is because your skin continues to tan until 3 hours after your tan is done.(This is why you're not supposed to shower for 3 hours afterwards.) So even though you wear the eyewear, around your eyes becomes darker also, because the tan spreads.

What are the effects of not using eyewear in the tanning bed?

Sometimes I use the goggles, and sometimes I don't. I was just wondering if there are any serious effects for not wearing them.
Thanks :-)

Oh, and, please don't put your opinion in an answer. I really don't care if you think the tanning bed is the devil, I'm still going to tan, regardless.

it's HORRIBLE for your eyes if you don't use the googles. The skin on your eyelids is extremely sensitive, and the uv light can damage your eyesight.

What kind of eyewear do you use when tanning?

Do you use goggles or wink-ease?

(Does wink-ease actually protect you?)

i use goggles :)

If you are planning on visiting a tanning salon this summer, you should be aware of a few things before tanning at your local salon. One of the most important things that most people overlook when tanning either indoors or outdoors is tanning eyewear. Closing our eyelids while tanning in a tanning bed isn’t sufficient to block out all of the UV rays and you could be doing long-term damage to your eyes. Most states now require that the use of tanning eyewear be a must. Tanning Salons will do two things: Some provide free eyewear and other sell it. I personally have gotten conjunctivitis, “pink eye,” by using the eyewear that is provided for free at tanning salons. Don’t get me wrong. Some tanning salons sanitize and disinfect the eyewear properly, but some salons are reliant upon their staff to clean those pairs of eyewear and not everyone will be thorough. My advice: for a couple of dollars, buy your own pair and just bring it with you every time you tan.
