Hi, I have started importing rimless eyewear frames(brandless) from India and China. Now these are great quality and i am giving a one year warranty on these frames. I am ready to sell it in wholesale(min. 10 orders for $30/frame) and to individuals(i am mostly looking for wholesale) for $50. But my problem is that the local retailers who sell these frames(similar frames) for $220 are not ready to buy from me as they say that they want a company backing me up. How do i make a start? What should be my strategy? I truly beleive that the market for frames have a monopoly charging ridiculous prices for frames and the people deserve much better and cheaper prices and that is the reason i started importing it. Can anyone advice me what my strategy should be and why would the people be/not be interested in a product like this?
Couple of issues.
1. If you are aproaching these companies as an individual and they're wanting a company to "back you up", I would strongly suggest you either set yourself up with a business lic. under a fictitious name. This can be done through your county. The other alternative would be to set up a corporation through your state or a different state, Nevada being a popular choice. The corporation would give you tax benefits and personal asset protection but is more complicated and costly.
2. Economies of scale. If you are importing 10 units per month the companies you aproach are importing 1000 units per month greatly lowering their cost.
Suggestions:
1. Try ebay you might be surprised at the results.
2. Attend trade shows specificly related to the product you are selling.
Hope this helps.
PS. ignore my spelling.

Where we take a pair of glasses from the high street, and a pair from our range, and compare them. This time looking at bendable rimless glasses ...
I will be purchasing a pair in September. They cost a fortune. I was wondering about durability. I am also getting a Crizal coating on the lens. If you know these products please share your wisdom with me before I spend our hard earned money.I had a horrible and expensive experience with my last pair of glasses. (Not Sillouhettes or Crizal.) Thank you!
I personally have never work the Sillouette brand but I have heard nothing but POSITIVE feedback. I used to work for a large optical chain and people would come in and look for the Sillouette brand. When I advised them we didn't carry them - I was told - well you should - they're fantastic!
My understanding is they are super durable and they hold there shape very well.
As for the crizal coating - your eye carrier may refer to it as an anti reflective coating. You will not be sorry! It is the best thing ever for glasses. Have the optical provider you choose show you the difference with a lens that has the coating and one that does not...it's amazing the difference. The lenses are so clear - you see into the person's eye and not the relection of light bouncing off of them.
Photographs? How wonderful is it to have a photograph taken where you don't have the reflection from the camera flash showing in your glasses?
If you work at all around a computer or under flourescent lights - you will love it! Reduces eye strain - it truly does.
You do need to be careful with the crizal coating and always wet your lenses before you clean them. They don't scratch super easy but obviously nothing is scratch proof so you want to ensure you protect your investment.
I have the anti-reflective/crizal coating on all my lenses, including the back of my sunglass lenses - and it's fantastic.
Well worth the investment - for both the Sillouette brand and the crizal coating.
Good Luck!

I bought eyeglass frames more than 5 years ago in this little rural GA town; I now live in Central FL and cannot find any glasses for wide bridge noses. The frame I have is from Nine West and it is semi-rimless. Rimless on top. Everyone comments on how good they look, but cannot help me replicate this style. I do not have to have this particular style, just one for wide nose bridges. Any suggestions?
get wire franes, wich could easily adjusted.

Pince-nez eyeglasses..if you are interested in this type of eyewear search flickr.com for photos and info.?
Pince-nez eyeglasses were the most popular eyewear in the early 20th century especially the rimless type. Contrary to currently held myths, a properly fitted pince-nez was both comfortable and secure when clipped on the bridge of the nose... (it was not a "one size fits all") great care was taken in the adjustment to fit the pince-nez to each individual's nose bridge.. thus pince-nez came in a variety of sizes etc.
Interestingly high school and especially college yearbooks of the 1890's to 1910's show the majority of photos of those wearing glasses to be rimless pince-nez. During World War I the recommended eyewear was pince-nez because of the ease in wearing a gas mask. Photos on flickr.com .. search under pince-nez. my prescription is the following
right: -6.50 sphere -3.25 cylinder 013 axis
left: -7.00 sphere -2.75 cylinder 165 axis
I like the following frames but I don't know if my lens would be too thick. I normally wear 167 but I am considering upgrading to 170 or even 174. I have been told that it's not really going to matter if there is an upgrade so I would have to get smaller frames to hide the thickness better. I would imagine from the side angle my lens would look awfully thick. Thanks for any input.

well if the lens are going to be thicker than the lens for a full frame then why even bother getting semi-rimless?
In a semi rimless frame, they have to makes the edges of your lens thicker to allow a grove for a cord to sit in which holds the lens in place. This will mean that even though you go for 1.74 lenses, the edges of your lenses will be thicker than if you went for a full rimmed frame of the same size
