Where can I find an optometrist in Virginia that take medicaid to provide children's eyeglasses?

My daughter just went to an optometrist who says she needs glasses to read. She needs to wear them all throughout school, but he didn't provide glasses paid by medicaid. Just exams. I've called all kinds of eyewear places but I'm having no luck. Please help. I can't afford $100-150 for glasses right now.

Here are two links to places that can help you find financial aid for glasses:

Computer Ey Strain - Is it a good idea to consider getting Glasses to protect from computer glare?

Do they even check for this sorta of thing at an O.D.? I have always had very good vision, never worn glasses or needed them - but since I now work very long hours and very long weeks I have noticed my eyes get tired, blurring and I get headaches much easier. I would consider talking to an optometrist if it seems like a good idea, but other than the eye strain my vision is fine. I would like to keep my good vision as long as I can, so is it a probable cause to get glasses for when I use the comptuer? Do they make such eyewear to "protect" your eyes?

They do make glasses designed specifically for working on the computer. Since you've made a change in how hard you're making your eyes work, go ahead and ask an optometrist about it. Getting your eyes checked while you're at it would be a good idea, too. Good luck!

The lenses in my new glasses are badly cut. Do you think I can return them?

I picked up my new pair of glasses just a couple days ago. As soon as I got home and looked at them, I noticed that one of the lenses was badly cut. By this I mean that the finished side of the lens lifts up and doesn't reset on the frame. Almost as if someone (or a machine slipped) while cutting it.

It is not huge, but it is also noticeable. I think the glasses were made by my insurance company (Davis Vision). Do you think I can return them? I bought them at an independently owned optometrist/eyewear shop.

I want to have some information before I call or stop by tomorrow.

Thanks!

Yes, you can return as soon as possible stating why.

My boyfriend keeps complaining he has a headache?

should he go get checked out at a regular doctor or an optometrist (eye doctor)? I ask because when I use to get headaches alot ( which I normally didn't) I went to the optometrist I was told that I needed eyewear. He doesn't have health coverage right now so I don't want him to waste money paying full cost for both

The eye doctor is a good place to start. Many will give him a free vision screening. Or you can go to the Wal-Mart Vision Center for a free screening.

If his eyes are ok, he needs to start writing down what he eats as well as what time he gets headaches. They could be caused by a chemical in food, like dyes or artificial sweetners.

Or, they could be allergy-related. Or, he could be spending too much time in front of TV's and computers.

What would you do? Bittersweet situation ...?

Bittersweet

I need some advice.

I work in an optometrist's office in Scottsdale. At my work, things have been pretty insane lately. Our manager left back home to Denmark over a month ago, and we just hired someone new to take her place, as well as getting a new tech in the last month. The only other girl there has been there almost a year, and her and I are great friends. Our Direrector of Operations has been helping out, and everything has been kind of stressful in our little office.

That's not the problem.

Every month, everyone in the office has to fill out their upcoming goals for the next month in order to get our incentives. One of my goals was to learn some opticianing duties. (An optician works with the patients after the doctor sees them, helps them select eyewear/contacts, and interprets the prescriptions. Basically, it's a pharmacist in the optical world. It's a great job.) Shortly after I gave the paperwork to our Director, she calls me back and asks if this is something I am really interested in, and of course, I say yes! I was so excited!

The NEXT day, our new manager asks to see me in his office. He asks if the director has talked to me. I say no. He tells me that I am going to start training to become an optician. Awesome right? Well, he says I am going to train to become an optician in our office ... to replace my own friend's job. As in, they plan on firing her as soon as I am trained.

Oh, then the sinking feeling in my stomach comes. This SUCKS! On one hand, this girl is my FRIEND! I mean, I have babysat her kid, we've gotten drunk together, shopped together and got our nails done, we carpool every day! I know her fiance, her brother, she lives a mile from me and I've been there for her when her grandma died. On the other hand, this is an opportunity like none other for me. Going from a receptionist to an optician in 6 months is unheard of in ther industry. My title is something I would ber proud of, it would be nearly $3 more an hour, not counting any of the commision I get from sales. (Nearly $500 a paycheck.) I would get a huge corner of this beatiful office to myself, be second only to the manager, and get business cards!

AGH, but it's my FRIEND. And do I even want to work for a company that wants to fire a girl I consider great at her job for no apparent reason? And, that makes me hold the burden of knowing she is about to be fired while I shoot the breeze driving her to work everyday?

Honestly, if I was in your friends position, I would want to know.

She might feel betrayed if you take her position, but it takes a big person to tell her what is going on, I know if a friend of mine knew that kind of information I would want to know about it so I could start to prepare for the future.

I would just be honest about what is going on and see how she feels about things, that way you guys can try to help eachother out.

  • Healthy Vision on the Job - Optometrist Delaware

Whatever you do for a profession, whether you’re a carpenter, or a teacher, healthy vision is vital to your success.  The American Optometric Association says that on the job eye injury and strain is not only common, but cost billions in lost productivity each year.  These figures are startling considering that 90% of these workplace injuries could be prevented simply by wearing properly designed and fitted protective eyewear.

But worrying about something flying into your eyes is not the only thing you have to be worried about.  If you’re like the rest of America, you sit in front of a computer all day long, text on your Smart Phone, browse the web at home, etc.  You also need to protect your vision.  Computer Vision Syndrome is a relatively new word, which brings with it some painful and uncomfortable symptoms such as: dry eyes, headaches, fatigue, blurred vision and loss of focus.

The below recommendations will go a long way to ensuring you have great vision for a very long time:
