I need a reading glass when I'm at my computer or to read..Recently, ordered a progressive eyewear from an optical shop. Did some examinations and when my eyewear is ready for collection, I tried on and could not even see clearly when I do my reading. Complain to the optician and he insisted that I do not how to use it and make up lots of other excuses. Isn't Optician supposed to help the patient and not just doing sales..How should I deal with it..
You should walk in and demand a new pair that are suitable for your eyes. Chances are he's just trying to avoid doing any extra work.
Since 1990, Andrews Optical has provided total eye care. Eye exams, designer eyewear fittings, custom eyeglasses, contact lenses and more are ...
Many local opticians have warned me about the lack of quality of lens bought online for single vision eyewear. I am reluctant to buy these lens online because my prescription is so high? What do you think?
btw, is there any real size and weight difference between high index 1.67 and 1.71? Many opticians tell me that the difference isn't worth the cost because there isn't much of a difference (.04 improvement versus a .07 improvement with the 1.67 if upgraded from a 1.60). I have seen the difference between the 1.60 and 1.67 and it's very apparent.
btw, my prescription is -650 and -700
For the second part of your question, you were told right.
The 1.71 may be worth it only if your prescription is over - 8.00 Diopters.
One of the most important things in high prescriptions is the frame choice. The wrong choice can add a lot of unwanted thickness to those lenses , no matter what index they are.
As for the first part of your question , I would rather be fit for glasses by someone who has seen me, taken the proper measurements and will give me service after if a problem arises.
My local economy is more important to me also , than supporting Hong Kong's economy.

I need some advice.
I work in an optometrist's office in Scottsdale. At my work, things have been pretty insane lately. Our manager left back home to Denmark over a month ago, and we just hired someone new to take her place, as well as getting a new tech in the last month. The only other girl there has been there almost a year, and her and I are great friends. Our Direrector of Operations has been helping out, and everything has been kind of stressful in our little office.
That's not the problem.
Every month, everyone in the office has to fill out their upcoming goals for the next month in order to get our incentives. One of my goals was to learn some opticianing duties. (An optician works with the patients after the doctor sees them, helps them select eyewear/contacts, and interprets the prescriptions. Basically, it's a pharmacist in the optical world. It's a great job.) Shortly after I gave the paperwork to our Director, she calls me back and asks if this is something I am really interested in, and of course, I say yes! I was so excited!
The NEXT day, our new manager asks to see me in his office. He asks if the director has talked to me. I say no. He tells me that I am going to start training to become an optician. Awesome right? Well, he says I am going to train to become an optician in our office ... to replace my own friend's job. As in, they plan on firing her as soon as I am trained.
Oh, then the sinking feeling in my stomach comes. This SUCKS! On one hand, this girl is my FRIEND! I mean, I have babysat her kid, we've gotten drunk together, shopped together and got our nails done, we carpool every day! I know her fiance, her brother, she lives a mile from me and I've been there for her when her grandma died. On the other hand, this is an opportunity like none other for me. Going from a receptionist to an optician in 6 months is unheard of in ther industry. My title is something I would ber proud of, it would be nearly $3 more an hour, not counting any of the commision I get from sales. (Nearly $500 a paycheck.) I would get a huge corner of this beatiful office to myself, be second only to the manager, and get business cards!
AGH, but it's my FRIEND. And do I even want to work for a company that wants to fire a girl I consider great at her job for no apparent reason? And, that makes me hold the burden of knowing she is about to be fired while I shoot the breeze driving her to work everyday?
Honestly, if I was in your friends position, I would want to know.
She might feel betrayed if you take her position, but it takes a big person to tell her what is going on, I know if a friend of mine knew that kind of information I would want to know about it so I could start to prepare for the future.
I would just be honest about what is going on and see how she feels about things, that way you guys can try to help eachother out.

So, i had these glasses for about 5 months. Not until recently, have i felt uncomfortable wearing them. I went to the opticians at the eyewear shop to adjust them for about 5 times, but they still feel uncomfortable.
I went to one shop and they told me that my temple (on the sides) are too short, so i have to constantly push the glasses back into my face making it tight to not fall. The thing is the temple pieces actually go over the bone on my ear, and when i compared it with my old glasses they were just a bit smaller, by 1cm?
I went to the other shop, and they told me that its my bad habit of constantly pushing my glasses back, making it fit very tightly on my face. As a result, leaving these red marks and feeling really uncomfortable seeing through them. They say i should just let them "sit" on my nose.
So the problem that i've been struggling for days is that:
1) Is it just my brain that is messing with me? My mom said its weird how i feel uncomfrotbale about my glasses after 5 months getting them, is anything, it SHOULD be more comfortable or i should have felt the same pain when i first got them
2) I do feel most secure when my glasses are pushed back, so that its closest to my face. Is that not what most people do? Do they just put on their glasses, and , BAM, they sit on the nose, and you don't adjust it anymore, and it feels comfortable?
Solutions:
1) Should i get a new pair of glasses? (contacts - i still have to wear glasses in a day/ surgery/ ortho-k - too expensive)
2) Is it my problem, that i have a bad habbit, it felt comfortable before but i should change it?
3) Would it be possible that overall, my frame is too small?
4) Should i try to buy "silicone" eye piece (i'm not sure whats the difference between silicone and plastic, is silicone more squishy?)
5) Is ortho-k really expensive?
Please, please, please, help me out, offer me your past experience advice. I beg you, i really want help :(
Is it possible you are a growing teen? If you are a male your facial bones might not be finished growing until you are 18. Females usually settle in about 16. That could be responsible for the change you feel.
I used to fit glasses, if yours were too tight when you started no adjustment will make them better.
Also I've noticed lately that the style is for glasses to be worn a bit farther down the nose than it used to be, this should be accounted for when the lenses are put in, but if the optician didn't take that into account you may be trying to see better by shortening the length from the eye to the lens.
In no case should you be feeling pain though so what ever you are doing to your glasses and your face, stop.
I already own a pair of dark rectangular black frames. I tried the salt frames and the optician says I look sharp in them. I haven't tried the ogas. The last oga with the thick plastic temples would hide some thickness like black rectangular one but the other semi-rimless frames could look weird on me because I have a high minus prescription.

holy moly, you people have some expensive tastes...the third oga is like 500 bucks minimum...i am thinking maybe I should try the salt...it has that retro look and gives me that johnny depp look...plus it's lined with white crystal plastic which will help blend in my thick lens.....do you think the greyish black version of the salt frame would look good on me?
I say 3,6, or eight, but what do care what I think? I'm a guy. huhu. Anyway, I usually relate big bulky frames or just large glasses in general to old greasy men.
