what is the best eyewear store out there? I get to buy one free pair of eyeglasses (not sunglasses) and contact lenses because of my insurance.
what store would you recommend? (preferrably in canada please)
costco vision? walmart vision? hakim optical?
i'm not sure if vision insurance in canada is similar to insurance in the US, but if it is...
it depends on the kind of insurance you have and whether or not the optical office accepts your insurance. for example, if you have VSP - a very large vision insurance company in the US - you won't be able to use it at costco, walmart, or any other major retailer because VSP is only accepted by private doctors.
you should find out more information about your insurance benefits and call around to different offices/stores and ask if they accept your insurance plan. Make sure that your insurance does in fact, like you say, cover both glasses AND contacts....many insurance companies in the US don't. also, how much does your insurance company cover towards frames and or glasses (Frame + Lenses)? you said you get a free pair of glasses, but a free $30 pair of glasses is different from a $300 pair of glasses.
with that said, if you do decide to get glasses, you can try costco optical (although be warned that many of their frames are discontinued so they may not have any warranty against manufacturer's defects) also, it takes a couple weeks for costco to get your glasses to you. if you have a taste for higher end frames, you can try lenscrafters, which has more designer frames and might possibly get your glasses to you in an hour, depending on your prescription.

Pince-nez eyeglasses..if you are interested in this type of eyewear search flickr.com for photos and info.?
Pince-nez eyeglasses were the most popular eyewear in the early 20th century especially the rimless type. Contrary to currently held myths, a properly fitted pince-nez was both comfortable and secure when clipped on the bridge of the nose... (it was not a "one size fits all") great care was taken in the adjustment to fit the pince-nez to each individual's nose bridge.. thus pince-nez came in a variety of sizes etc.
Interestingly high school and especially college yearbooks of the 1890's to 1910's show the majority of photos of those wearing glasses to be rimless pince-nez. During World War I the recommended eyewear was pince-nez because of the ease in wearing a gas mask. Photos on flickr.com .. search under pince-nez. I have made an appt. to get fitted for some prescription eyeglasses. It will include the exam, prescription, frames and lenses. I am just going to one of those "vision center" type places, this one is called Dr. Barnes Eyewear Express.
My question is, how much should I expect to pay for the entire process? What is the average cost for a pair of glasses. I don't have horrible eyes, and I don't want anything fancy.
It depends on if you need bifocals or not, if you get tinted, or UV, or expensive frames.
I can cost only $100.00 at some places, without any extras.
Mine cost $300-$330 usually.
That is after the exam cost, which is separate...$40-50.
that is USA

“I will never be a basketball player in our college team. And what’s more, my NBA dream would never come true.”
“What’s wrong?” my best friend, Freezing Smith, asked surprised.
“Look at me! Just 1.85 m! How can I make my NBA dream come true?”
“No! Who said so? Just look at ‘the answer’, Allen Iverson, he is shorter than you. ”
“Yeah! He is always one of the greatest basketball players in the NBA. But few people has his speed or skills.”
“That’s true! But confidence is more important. Just trust yourself!”
“I cannot. Sometimes, I have to consider this! You know how I love playing basketball? And you know how I want to join in the college basketball team? That’s my dream!”
“Come on! My dear friend, calm down. Let’s play basketball right now and put the shit dream aside”
“No, I can’t! I just find my eyes became short sighted.”
“What do you mean?”
