i have a a pair of Jeep glasses that i bought about 6 years ago for like 300 bucks. i am now looking for a new pair of frames online i read the size as this 42 ( theres a lil square shape) 23 '25'. i know what the first two numbers mean, but the '25' has me confused, i know my temple thing on another pair i have is 140, what does '25' mean?
Well, the first number is the milimeters of how wide your lense is in the horizontal measurement. The Square shape is just that it means "Box" or a 42 Box if we squared it up in a box. We sometimes call it a Box Size ( I am showing my age here....some newer opticians are gonna learn something here....) the number after the "Box is the Closest Distance between the lenses. We call it the DBL or the Distance between the lenses. That is simple enough. These are technical measurements and not really "sizing" measurements like you would buy clothes or jeans. a small lense sixe or a small dbl does not mean the frame is small. Sometime there can be a lot of frame there and the glasses can be pretty big. Sometimes there is little frame at all so they are actually smaller in fit. Does that make sense? The 145 is your temple length. Most read anywhere from 120-150 in mm in 5 mm incruments, from the start of the temple it's self to the end. Temples start in different places on a frame, so most of the time this is not a good measurement for fit either, as it is a technical measurement of the temple. The "25" might be a model number or a color number. Companies all have their own way of identifying color and models. Some do both or one or the other in numbers. Do I make any sense, or did I make it worse for you? I hope I helped!

I found a pair of reading glasses I like for about $10. Could I bring these frames somewhere and have them fitted with my prescription? If so, where should I look, and how much can I expect to pay?
But before I buy the frames, would this ultimately be a waste of money? I imagine $10 frames probably aren't the most durable in the world, I just feel like I'm being ripped off at the the big chain frame stores.
Thanks
You shouldn't waste your money on those frames since they weren't made to handle the use they'd get once they were your everyday glasses. Ask your friends who wear glasses where they got theirs. We found a great place to get 2 complete pair for $100. For single vision basic glasses. It's a great place to get glasses for kids since they sometimes break or lose glasses. It costs a bit more for bifocals or glare free, but it's still cheaper than the big mall chains. I know what you mean too about the bigger chains, you go in expecting $100-$150 and come out $250-$300 in debt! Good Luck! 8-)

I looked everywhere for variety of eyeglasses frames. All i ve seen was a bunch of common eyeglasses in thin narrow rectangle shaped (like reading glasses). These frames do not fit my facial shape. Is there any unique or local eyeglasses stores beside chain stores (TSO, Pearl, Eyemaster) in Houston, Texas?
This depends on your face shape. Look at this website, I am not encouraging you to buy from this website but it is a good "frame" of reference for face shapes. http://www.framesdirect.com/face-shape.a sp#square

i really like the design of some reading glasses. I have looked all over the internet as well as eye glass shops and I am not able to find the frame that I want. I want a frame that is really small and rectangular. Is it possible that I can BUY a reading glass frame and go to an optometrist to specially have the lens cut for the particular glasses. Will i have to have an up to date rx to do this. Could i possible get it done online Generally how much does this cost.
Here are an example of reading eyeglass frames that I am talking about.

thanks. ill do that.
You need to look closely at the eyewire (the metal that holds the lens in place). Look to see if there is a screw somewhere along the eyewear that serves to allow the eyewire to be opened. If so, the frames should be able to be used by your optometrist.
There is another town right next door in China that manufactures most of the disposable cigarette lighters in the world...etc..etc.. What can you tell me about this phenomenon?

YKK has a patent on zippers and that's why you see them all the time.
In my opinion, economics is such a big factor here. China's currency is undervalued and US manufacturers stay competitive by expensing operations from there. The country and it's economic strategy continues to hurt U.S. manufacturing and jobs. As an engineer in the manufacturing sector, this is a trend and issue very important to me. Soon, I myself may be working in China!
Last summer, it hit a head when something around 14,000 manufacturing jobs were lost in August alone- I remember the buzz in my grad school classes.
What we need to do is support bills and reforms in COngress that limit Chinese imports and put heavier taxes on US businesses who operate in China. Not sure if that will happen, since corporate america rules Washington in some ways, but we can hope.
