Could my eyeglass prescription be wrong?

Last week I had an eye exam and received new glasses. They are progressive lens and my old glasses were also progressive, so I know they take a bit of getting used to. I put my new glasses on in the optical store and couldn't see out of the left eye as it was extremely blurry. The optician rechecked the lens, made some adjustments (several times while I was still there) but still I just couldn't see well. They told me to go home and "try to get used to them", which is what I reluctantly did. The next day, not being able to see well at all and being very frustrated, I went back to the optical store. They then said maybe it was the frame style causing some distortion and also maybe it was the fact that they used a different brand progressive lens than what I previously had. So we started over. I picked out new frames and they remade my glasses using a different type progressive. Ok, so next day my glasses were ready. In the store, they did seem to be better, but again the left eye just seemed wrong. I left with them again and just thought I would get adjusted to them. That's been 3 days ago and I am back to wearing my old glasses because I still can't see with the new ones. I am so frustrated. The glasses were expensive and more importantly, I don't have good vision. So I am considering going to a different optometrist tomorrow and get another eye exam to see if it comes out different, then I plan to get my money back (they do have a 30-day guarantee) on the glasses and go somewhere else and start over. I'm leaving in a few days to go on vacation out-of-state and I need to be able to see well and will also be driving.

My question is to anyone with optical experience...Could the optometrist have gotten my prescription wrong? Is the eye exam based on my subjective responses to the test? Or is it mostly based on the computer measurements they also take during the exam? Sometimes I have a hard time answering "is this better or worse" because of a muscle imbalance problem I have had since birth (I had strabismus surgery as a child and I always tell the optometrist that.) Would a different optometrist most likely get the very same results from my eye test? Here is my prescription just so you can see how each eye varies. I would also like to ask you how common is it to have such a big variation in each eye.

Right eye: sphere -2.50 cylinder -1.50 axis 120
Left eye: sphere -4.75 cylinder -1.00 axis 171
Add +2.25 (but doesn't say right or left)
PD 59/55

Also, here's my old prescription from glasses I wore for 3 years:

Right eye: sphere -2.50 cylinder -1.25 axis 115
Left eye: sphere -5.00 cylinder -1.00 axis 80
Add: 1.75

I really would appreciate any feedback from knowledgeable people. Thanks in advance.

90 degrees difference in the left eye axis is certainly a reason not to see well.

I would think the Dr. meant to write 71, not 171 on the new Rx.

Where can I buy cheap eyeglasses?

And how much would they cost?
I need one lens +4.0 and another +4.5. I have prescription and everything, but I'm a student and can't afford designer glasses. So basically all I'm looking for is OK looking regular frames, nothing special. I'm 21 by the way.

Can I get them at CVS? I know they have reading glasses on display. Can I just pick any frames and ask them to put in lenses that i need? And again, how much would it cost?
I can't buy glasses online, I need to be able to try them on!!
LOL- I don't change stuff to my credit cards and make payments. That's the dumbest thing one can do - you end up paying more.
And thanks for the suggestions.. I still don't know where to go but I guess I will have to just spend a day checking out places and asking for prices

"America's Best" claims to have name brand frames with lenses starting at $50.

Some independent opticians may be willing to give you a very good deal on discontinued frames if you ask nicely.

Walmart will make new lenses for frames you supply for about $60. Maybe you have some old glasses, or can get some at a thrift store, or from a friend or family member.

A question about eyeglasses?

The nose piece on my eyeglasses just fell off. I'm thinking it's a good time to just get new frames. However, this is the first time that I've ever had glasses as I've always had contacts before. I need to know:

1) From the time you pick out your frames, how long does it take to fit them with your lenses and have them returned to you ready to wear?

2) How much have your frames cost on average? (I do not have insurance.)

Depending on the place, if they have their own machine/worker they can get them back to you that day. Most places have to send away for lenses to be cut into frames so that can take up to 4 days. Average cost of glasses are the same pricing for contacts depending on the frame, u can get cheap frames, the lenses can get pricey...You'll probably need 200-300 dollars excluding eye exam.

Cost of lens replacement at Costco for my frames?

I recently got my new prescription for my eyeglasses, and I was wondering if anybody knew how much it would cost if I brought in my frames and only wanted new lenses put in? I got my eye exam done with my local optometrist and I currently have these frames I bought somewhere else with an old script in them.

I really wanted to get this done at Costco as I am already going there to pick up contact lenses. I don't need transitions, polarized, or bifocals by the way. If anyone knows from experience how much it might cost, please let me know. Thank you!

Is glassesusa a reliable site?

I'm afraid of ordering glasses online, but I fell in love with this particular pair. http://www.glassesusa.com/full-frames-wo odward-pink-eyeglasses.html They only have one size, so if I measure my current ones, and I find that the size will work, then I want them! Unsure about ordering online, though. 21.95 INCLUDING lenses? How can that be right, even at clearance price? I have -6.50 in both eyes in contacts, so I have pretty bad eyesight. I still fit within the 'normal' range, though (not sure about now), and was able to pick an average thickness of lens. I haven't ordered glasses in a long time, but my lenses were $60, and that was 10 years ago. Of course, I ordered them from the office, so they were probably more costly that way... Have you ever checked out this site? It seems legit to me, but I rarely order items online. Also, my right eye script is -6.25 - 1.00 085. It's very close to what my right eye is in a contact, and it came out to -6.50 (for my contacts). Not sure about glasses, though. How would I input that online?

Again, I probably won't end up ordering these, but it helps to have some idea of what I'm doing if I'd decide not to order them in the office for some reason. Thanks.

The site is as safe as any other of course buyer beware always plays a part in online purchases for us all.
After you select buy these frames you will go to a screen where you can input the info on the prescriptions, then it is a simple matter of checking out after that.

Usually most businesses are trustworthy what with the crack downs on internet fraud all businesses are required to register so unless it is a porn site you have nothing to worry about.

How To Select Mirror Holder For Your Kids - sonia's blog

If you need cheap eyeglasses , then to choose a pair of qualified glasses frames is very critical. It is particularly true to children. In particular, the cheeper doesn’t have the ability of pouring out. If the glasses are unfit, the parents often think that their child is too piquant to like wearing the glasses. In fact, the inappropriate glasses are very adverse to the children’s eyes, and will lead the children to have the emotion of hating wearing glasses. Therefore, it is most necessary to consider several aspects before selecting kids glasses:

The spectacle frame of kids glasses must be light. Generally speaking, the frame that weights between 13g and 19g is the most appropriate. Children’s heads are very different from adults’, especially the peak angle of children’s noses, the curvature of children’s noses are more significantly different from adults’. Therefore, in the selection frame for children, it is necessary to observe the features of child’s face, fat or thin, the bridge of the nose, high or low and others. Most children have a low nose shape, for they are still in developing, so you can choose frames with high nose bracket or ajustable bracket. Otherwise, if the bracket of the glasses frame is low, when the children wear glasses, the frames will be affixed to the face, and even contact with the eyelashes to cause glasses can not be used. Besides, it is better to buy kids glasses with hangers which can wind around the back of head with elastic. The band shouldn’t be too loose in case that the glasses slide down from kid’s head.
