How Long Does It Really Take LensCrafters To Order in Lenes And Make Them.?

I went to Lenscrafter this past sunday, since my eye glass frame broke, to get my eyes check and get a new pair. That pair I got it back in 2002 from them. This time after getting the eyes check, and the measurements for the chosen frame, the worker went to check. She said they don't have lens in stock for people with a prescription that is high like me. She said like 7 days and they'll call, so long doe it reall take near a week, or as long as local mom and pop eyeglass place.
How come they don't just also have those on hand for people who has a prescription that is stronger. All it is they don't use it that much, untill there are those that need them.
Another thing all my other glasses are old and could or may break anytime it more then 12 or 15 years old. Even when I use them for the time being till this new one, and they are not as clear on details since my vision has changed.
Would there be any chance they could have it a day or two early ready for pick up, and what are the chances it more then one week like a day or two later.

A week sounds about right: they have to place the order, wait for it to arrive, and then unpack and get ready for you.

I use Zenni optical (www.zenni.com), and bypass LensCrafters entirely. I get a pair of glasses from them for $10 plus $5 shipping (on up).

Eyeglass lenses question? Do you measure Segment Height when ordering?

I was wondering if you have a thick eyeglass Rx, is it customary that you be measured for PD (pupillary distance) and the SH (segment height) to ensure that your eyes are measured to have the optical center sit based on how your eyes are in that particular style of frame?

I was curious because some lenses, your eyes sit higher up towards the upper end of the frame and not necessarily in the horizontal center.

It just seems they only measure the PD (distance between each eye to the inner part of frame, and give no mind to the horizontal placement of your eyeballs to the frame you chose and how the lens sits.

If you wear really strong glasses, it becomes more critical to get it so you are looking through the center of each lens to avoid headaches, distortion, etc. If you are ordering on-line, you might want to consider just buying the empty frames and have the lenses fitted by a local optician, that way he/she can take whatever measurements are necessary to get it right the first time. It will probably cost you less in the long run.

Which one is more cost effective, eyeglasses or contacts?

I am a federal employee, and have what I would think, good vision coverage. I know with my coverage I can choose contacts in lieu of eyeglasses. I know with glasses, I pay for the eye exam copayment and a small fee, lenses are covered and frames as well. Since one pair lasts a year, I was wondering how does that work with contacts, since they have to be ordered multiple times throughout the year? Thanks....

Okay:

CONTACTS:
-You can order contacts up to a years supply. The only thing is if you get contacts you probably need a pair of back-up glasses in case you get an eye infection or if your eyes just get irritated. Everyone says contacts are hard to put in and out but they're really not. You can also get funky cool colored ones to change your eye color if you're feeling daring!

GLASSES:
Well, some people don't like glasses and some love them. You can get a really conservative pair or a really funky cool pair! Mine are brownish copper on the outside and have turquoise on the inside. Big stores like Lenscrafters and Pearle Vision have TONS of different frames to try, and the people there will help pick out some good ones for you. It is true that a pair of glasses will last you a whole year, but with contacts you can order a years supply or if you feel like your prescription might change, you can always change your contact lens order to fit your needs, whereas with glasses you're stuck with one pair a year. It's really up to whether you want to have glasses or not. The only thing with glasses is if you want to wear makeup and stuff it's hard to see it and personally I like wearing contacts a lot more than glasses. Also, glasses can get in the way if you don't want to wear them. If you're going out, choose between glasses or being able to see! And also, your glasses might not go with every outfit you want to wear.

A pair of glasses costs probably about $200 (frames are what kill you with price)

A years supply of contacts costs about $150 (but with good insurance you can get them super-cheap!)

And if you do get contacts I recommend two week lenses. they're less hassle than everyday contacts or the monthy ones. I also recommend Accuvue Oasis lenses, they're great.

I really hope I helped, now that I wrote out my life story on here! Good luck choosing!

You can get your contacts for a whole year as well, that's as long as a prescription is valid anyway so then you go back, get tested, and get your years supply of contacts again. Easy! Good luck!

If the glasses are only used when reading or watching TV, select the frame according your own needs.

People with high myopia had better not choose the semi-frame and frameless glasses, because the matching of thick lenses and no frame is not pretty and easy to damage. People with high degree of astigmatism are not suitable to select the frameless glasses frame, because the lens matching the frameless glasses frame for a long time will cause the shift of astigmatic axis, and result in the distortion of viewed objects. If the purpose of wearing glasses is to meet the matching needs when attending some occasions to a large extent, meanwhile the visual acuity does not have high demands on the frame, choose it according to your special needs.
