I generally shop at American Apparel (americanapparel.net) for my eyeglasses, and sometimes at GiantVintage.com, but recently their selections have been lacking. So my question is, where can I found AWESOME vintage eyeglasses/sunglasses online? Like the ones at American Apparel?

Where can I find vintage style eyeglasses with clear glass?

I need it for an actor in a play about WW2. He has to wear the glasses quite a bit on stage and he normally doesn't wear glasses. I don't have a lot of money to spend!

Try ebay. There is a pretty good selection for decent prices. They would normally either come with clear lenses or no lenses. I used to work for an eye doctor who put clear lenses in for free for several of my friends. Not sure what the going rate on this would be, but Im sure you could get something made for them.

Is it possible to have an eyeglass store/eye doctor put sunglass lenses in vintage eyeglass frames?
or1

I need a new pair of sunglasses but can't find something I like. If I buy a pair of vintage eyeglass frames, is it possible for an eye doctor/Pearle Vision (or whatever) cut out custom sunglass lenses to fit? I don't need prescription lenses or anything.

If so, about how much would that cost?

As long as the frame is in good condition and as long as the frame is made for optical lenses then many places should do it. I would stay away from any old plastic vintage frames because they tend to deteriorate. Putting new lenses in them could damage the frames. As long as the optical has the appropriate equipment (most opticals have edging machines that trace the lens shape before it cuts them) then there should be no problems. The price will depend on what type of lenses you are getting . Whether they are prescription or Plano (non prescription) and if they are either tinted or polarized will make a difference in the price! You should expect to pay at least $60+ for new lenses! I would call around to see which opticals will do this for you!
Good luck!

You're right the 70's aren't coming back, but everything you own is probably a figment of something dated. Get a clue, Miss. Oh, and Merry Christmas.

Oh no the 70s are coming back

What is the best paint to use to paint plastic eyeglasses frames?
or2

I just bought a pair of vintage plastic eyeglasses online, the shape is perfect (ive been searching for this shape everywhere) but i hate the color. What is the most durable and least toxic (since it will be sitting on my face for extended periods of time) paint to use? I have been thinking about using the spray paint for plastics but I'm not sure if thats the best choice.

I know you want to but I really wouldn't put paint, especially spray on your glasses. They'll be near your eyes and will most likely be bad for them however non toxic the paint is. I'm sure the colours not that bad. :)

  • What Size Are Those Specs?

Choosing your vintage eyeglasses according to the measurements on the frames can be challenging.  You will find that moving from style to style can cause a great fluctuation in the frame measurements.  For instance, a pair of aviator frames may be sized 58[]20, horn rimmed frames sized 52[]22 and cat eye frames sized 48[]20 and all fit the same face cosmetically and physically.  This fluctuation in the measurements is because of the style of the frame and whether the frame has a saddle bridge or nose pads. This can best be explained by first understanding what these numbers actually mean.  Firstly, the lens and bridge are measured in millimeters. So the first number is the measurement across one lens at the very widest point.  Here's where you can see that the first number will be much larger on the aviator frames because of it's standard teardrop shape.  The cat eye, often has a very elongated lens and the horn rim a boxy square lens. The bridge on each pair...
