Prescription Eyeglass

I'm looking for new prescription eyeglass frames (not sunglasses) for a 13 year old girl. I want to choose a brand that is "in" - something that is high end, prestigious and well-known. The price must be US $500 or less. Thank you.
In a side note, what do you guys think of the brand "Lafont"? Is it in the same league as D&G, Prada and Bvlgari, or am I totally off-base?

D&G makes eyeglasses and so do DKNY, Prada, Burberry, Bvlgari, and Versace. Armani Exchange also makes eyeglasses.

Most teens who wear designer frames choose D&G, which are recognizable due to the large "D&G" lettering on the temples. Prada, Burberry, Bvlgari, Versace, and Ralph Lauren have smaller lettering on the sides and are typically more "classic." Meaning that it will probably be easier to find D&G in bright colors than Prada in bright colors.

Many teens also pick Vogue, which isn't a high-end brand but is pretty popular.

Generally all of the brands I mentioned are priced at about $300-400 per frame which is within your price range. It might be a little too much for a 13-year-old (I'm 13) since we teens move around a lot and if she's not extra careful, she may damage them. But if she's responsible enough and takes care to wipe her lenses off a few times every day and use a case when she's not wearing them, it's worth the investment since designer frames are so pretty and fairly strong. :D

I recently bought glasses for my wife and myself online. Now she wants another pair and I am finding more and more websites than just a few months ago. If you have bought prescription eyeglasses from an online vendor in the past six months, who was it and what was your experience? I want to get great-looking frames that can handle a fairly robust prescription without breaking the bank.

I bought most of my glasses from optical4less. In my opinion, they are without a doubt the best online prescription eyeglass vendor. Out of the 'major' cheap vendors O4L has had the least issues and problems. I recently ordered my glasses in December of '08 and they were flawless. They are very cheap too, so your bank won't be breaking. Try them out!

The doctor said I'm fine and the CAT scan came back without any issues. But I still have blurry vision that didn't start until after I started wearing the new glasses. So could the wrong eyeglass prescription cause serious damage to my eyesight?

No chance, with an adult.

There are millions of people out there, who could use them, not wearing Rx's, the exact equivalent of wearing *incorrect* Rx's.

Their eyesight is not going to hell in a hand cart because of it.

Undetected diabetes as previously mentioned would be a possibility, central serous retinopathy, (swelling at the macula), an acquired uncompensated phoria (binocular vision instability )...
There are lots of others.

I have known people with nuclear sclerosis cataract change their Rx so fast that their spectacles were out-of-date by the time they collected them.

Yes, there remain things to investigate, but you have no grounds at all to blame your glasses prescription.

My eyeglass prescription is less than a year old (it hasn't changed in years) and I know my contacts brand and fitting information from two years ago (with the same RX as my current eyeglass prescription). I don't want to pay another $250 to go to an eye doctor and put all this information together. Is there a way I can order contacts without an official contact prescription?

A glasses prescription provides information in regard to the POWER needed in a prescription. In order for a contact lens to be dispensed, the dispenser must have more information.

1) Brand of contact lens
2) Diameter of contact lens
3) Base curve of contact lens
4) Power of contact lens (this can be different than the power of the spectacle Rx.)

This information is what makes a contact lens prescription necessary.

I know you cant do the reverse, however, my most recent eye exam was for contacts and they only wrote the contact prescription on the slip I have, so I was wondering if I can get my eyeglass prescription from it so I can order glasses online. Does anyone know if you can do this?

Not sure about the online part, but the prescription should be for the same strength. The only difference is when they fit you for contacts they also have to fit your eye for them.
