Where is the cheapest place I can find prescription eyeglass lenses?

I bought some really awesome frames but now I need just the lenses and I want to get them for as cheap as possible since the frames were on the pricey side. If you could give me an idea of prices too, along with a place that would be great. Thanks!

Hey there, you should try http://www.optical4less.com

I've used their services to replace lenses on one of my old pairs and they did it very efficiently and swiftly. They were exceptionally cheap too, I forget the price as it was quite a while ago but it was cheap!

Just ask their support for a quote on your glasses. And then if you're satisfied (which I'm sure you will be because it's cheap and good quality lenses) you just have to send your glasses to them and they'll replace the lenses and send them back. O4L is a reputable company, as I've been buying glasses from them for over a year now so you won't have to worry. Good luck!

Is there any way to remove very small scratches from plastic prescription eyeglass lenses?

No, she wasn't lying. Scratches in lenses can only be removed if you have an anti-reflective coating on the lenses, because an anti-reflective coating can be stripped off. If the scratches are only in the coating, 95% of them will be stripped off with the coating. Anything that has gone beneath the coating and through to the lens' surface, will remain. We can strip AR coat in our lab and we do it free of charge. However, sometimes the coatings don't strip entirely and it can actually make the lenses worse. For this reason, there is no guarantee on it and its done at the patient's own risk. Not every place has the ability to do that. Before we were able to obtain the chemical, we used to have to send the lenses out to the surfacing lab and have them stripped there and sent back and this usually cost about $15 or so and took about a week.

If you don't have an anti-reflective coating on your lenses (a lens treatment for glare) then there is nothing that can be done. Its not like buffing scratches out of your watch face. First, the lense are plastic; not glass. Secondly, to buff a plastic lens, or ANY prescription lens for that matter, would change the curve of the lens, which would warp the prescription. What gives a lens its prescriptive powers is the curve of the lens, and when that is changed, it will alter the prescription.

Opticians don't lie about being able to remove scratches just to get you to buy a new pair. There are just things that simply cannot be done and that is one of them. Take better care of your lenses and they won't get scratched. If they are small scratches, sounds like they may be from cleaning them. ALWAYS rinse your lenses off BEFORE you wipe them. I don't mean simply wetting them with a spray; I mean actually hold them under running water and rinse all of the dirt and crud off BEFORE you take a clean cotton or microfiber cloth to them. Just like when you wash your car. The first thing you do before you take a sponge to it is you hose it down good to remove as much road grit and bugs as possible so you don't grind it into the paint finish. Same thing applies to your lenses. It amazes me that people are willing to take so much care with their cars, but not with their glasses. Heck, they only need them to SEE, and when they get scratched and ruined because people are lazy, right away its "that darn lying optician's fault...." No. We're not lying.

Check with where you go them to see if you have an anti-reflective coating on them, if you don't already know. And then ask if you can have them stripped (and you can have them recoated if you want but you will have to pay for the recoating option)

ordering prescription eyeglass lenses?

will the optometrist order prescription eyeglass lenses for you even if you didn't buy the eyeglass frames at their store?

Many places will but there are things to take into consideration:
1. You may end up paying more for the completed pair than if you had the optometrist sell you frame and lenses. See if they can order the frame you like...you may get a better deal that way. The frame model # is found on the arm of the glasses...usually two letters or the full name followed by a couple numbers.
2. If they agree to edge lenses for you into the frame that you bought somewhere else, most places will not be held responsible if that frame breaks at any time...so it is at your own risk.
Good luck!

How much does it cost to fill in prescription lenses for new eyeglass frames?

I bought some new frames from a website and would like to fill in with prescription lenses from my local eye center. How much will they charge for the lenses if I have already have a prescription filed with them?

I have no idea the total price but I guess since you have already prescription filed on your eyeglasses, you take big charge on it. Watch this video you really enjoy it.

which is better to choose for prescription eyeglass lenses-plastic or glass

AND WHY?

I started wearing glasses about 30 years ago and my first pairs had glass lenses (I don't think plastic was offered). I was always worried that the glass might shatter and cause an injury. I changed to plastic when given a choice and noticed that the glasses were lighter and more comfortable. The only downside was that the difference between my two eyes was much more noticeable (at that time I was only shortsighted in one eye and the plastic lens was much thicker at the edges than the glass one had been). For many years now, I have never been offered the option of glass lenses.
