We're looking for inexpensive (less than $25) eyeglasses, polarized, uncorrected, with darker tint at top of the lenses, gradually clearing to little or no tint at the bottom. We haven't been able to locate eyeglasses with lenses that are both polarized and with gradient tinting. Any ideas?
Thanks.

i want to know if anyone makes polarized glasses without any tint.
OK. Let's talk about the physics of light. Light coming from a point source travels through space in randomly positioned wave fronts with wavelengths of light oscillating in all directions (up and down, back and forth, and all possible oblique angles). Polarized lenses are designed to block only light that is oscillating horizontally or very nearly horizontally. When light bounces off of horizontal surfaces (such as water) much more of the wavelengths begin to travel in a horizontal back and forth manner. Therefore, polarized lenses dramatically decrease glare off of flat surfaces such as water by filtering out these horizontally oscillating waves of light. Any time you block a percentage of light traveling through a lens (it really doesn't matter what direction they are oscillating in) you will see less light through the lens. Therefore, the lens will appear to have a tint. (That's what tints are. They are treatments of a lens to cause absorption or blocking of light). So, since a polarized lens blocks light (mostly horizontal) it unavoidably will result in the lens having a tint. Hope this helped.

Chances are, yes. Polarized lenses use a filter to block glare, so there will probably be what looks like a tint on the lenses. Sunglasses are more commonly polarized than regular eyeglasses.

I just went for my first eye exam at age 26, and turns out, I need distance glasses. I got the perscription and when I got home I noticed where the paper said "special instructions" it said polarized lenses. But I don't want polarized lenses! Am I forced to get them when I go to a eyeglass store because he checked it? I know the benefits of polarized, but for my own reasons, I'm just not in wanting of them.
Yes but I do need a perscription. I just don't want polarized..I'll never use them outside, it's just for while I'm in class to see the board. :) So what I'm saying is, they can't force me to get that type of lense, can they?
Did he tell you after your exam why you need polarized glasses? Everyone should have a pair of polarized glasses. It helps to prevent the UVA AND UVB rays of light coming in and macular degeneration disease. You don't have to get them prescription, you can buy brands like Revo, Maui Jim, Serengeti, and Ray Ban, etc. Just make sure the glasses say polarized.
I bought a new pair of sunglasses for $18 and the second day I had them I dropped them on a parking lot. Now there is a scratch in the middle of the lens!
I am afraid that the polarized coating will be damaged if I take it to an eyeglass or a sunglasses store (and I don't want to pay more than needed). Also I would imagine that the auto plastic scratch polish will remove the polarized coating as well.
Can I buy replacement lenses that are inexpensive? If so, where can I get them? (I don't want to order them online or anything of that nature)
ANY SUGGESTIONS???
Try your nearest garbage can. I think your glasses are done.
