Optical Eyeglasses

I was chasing some men's black to clear (crystal) coloured eyeglasses. Of a quality seen in the American Optical 1950s brand. I am chasing either deadstock / original frames or contemporary reproductions / similar styles.

Go on ebay, and put in a request for them, someone probably has a pair in a drawer.

I had pads on my eye glasses fall out after ski goggle removal. The optical shop took 5 minutes and put new pads in, cleaned my glasses, and gave them back to me. They said I didn't owe them anything. I feel absurdly greatful (not enough however to buy glasses from them - I get mine over the internet). Should I have offered a tip? What's the etiquette of such transactions? Thanks!

I do not think a tip was necessary. Just let them know how much you appreciate it. This is a fairly common "Good Will Gesture" by optical shops. Most of the time, they do not know that you are not there customer. Also, helping others with minor adjustments like that is a way to get new customers.

The lenses are ordered and come in a perfect circle. They then use a machine to grind them down in order to fit perfectly into the frame you picked out. They also take measurements of your pupils and make sure the focal point of the lenses will be in the right place for your eyes.
