I was chasing some men's black to clear (crystal) coloured eyeglasses. Of a quality seen in the American Optical 1950s brand. I am chasing either deadstock / original frames or contemporary reproductions / similar styles.

We generally call the category of frames memory metal. They are made from a titanium alloy. 100% titanium frames do not behave this way. Flexon from Marchon is the most popular and have been around the longest. Several other companies make them now and most cost less.

and what type of paint should i use?


It probably can be done. but its not as easy as you would think. You first have to take out the glass or plastic lens and any thing else that is plastic like the nose pieces and ear pieces.You can have done what is called a Hot Coat . That is where they dip the item in a dry paint of sorts and then while being attached to an electrical source and then heater to a certain degree it forms a very hard paint finish. But to be honest with you, it might even be cheaper to buy new frames because Hot coating is not cheap. And that is of course if you can find anyone around you that does it. A lot of car engines have parts that are done that way because it is heat resestant. Do A google search to see if you can find anyone who does Hot coating and then ask them if they can do it for you.

I want to buy one for myself, I am so tired of having to go to an optical department at the mall every time my glasses need adjusting. I would rather do it myself.


If you aren't careful those frame warmers can burn the plastic of the frames. Why not use boiling water to soften the plastic instead and save some money.
