Can I put in new prescription lenses into my old eyeglasses frame?

I have a really awesome pair of cat eyeglasses, but the lenses don't match my eyes. I just basically want to use to frames, but put new prescription lenses into it. Do Lenscrafters do this, and how much would it be?

It can be done, but it is at your own risk. Because the frame is old, the company doesn't make it anymore- This just means that if the frame breaks they won't be able to get replacement parts. Fitting your new lenses into another frame would be much more difficult, so if your current frame breaks you'd likely need to buy new frames AND lenses again to replace them.

ANYONE who works with eyeglasses- can I get new lenses for old frames?

I have a Kenneth Cole set of eyeglass frames that I love. Unfortunately they are no longer made. I want to get new lenses put in them, since my old ones are a bit scratched after a few years.

Can an eyeglass store make new lenses for discontinued frames? I have the little plastic "fake" lenses that came with the frames, if that means anything.

Thanks for any help!!!!

If these are ophthalmic frames, there should be no problem even if they're discontinued. Most labs are equipped with a pattern maker, some save old patterns, or the optician cuts a pattern by hand.

I would like 2 replace the lens in my old eyeglass frames by mail.?

I have 2 old eyeglass frames.I really like them as both were made in Italy and were a bit pricey.I also happen to like the style. One pair are Brooks Brothers and the others look like John Lennon type but are sunglasses. I would like a recommendation as to who is the best by mail lens replacement company.
It would be nice if they were inexpensive as I am unemployed and have been for 11 months.

Here is a site I found. I don't know if it is good or not.

What do you do with your old glasses?

What do you do with your old eyeglasses? My fellow expats and I are collecting old frames from eyeglasses, especially kid's size.
There is a group of kids at the Sanatorium in Sta Barbara, Iloilo, The Philippines that need glasses. Their parents are lepers and are rejected, so they can't find work and don't have any money.
One of our friends is an eye surgeon who checks and heals the kids eyes. Some of them need glasses. If we could collect the frames, then the optician can put the right glasses in them. We could also use iso - betadine, an antiseptic.
Who can help?
No thanks, we are not begging for money.
Thanks a lot for reading this message.
to Jasin: please READ my whole text...I didn't ask you what I should do with the frames, because I already explained what I do with them. I asked what YOU are doing with them...and if you are not doing anything with them if you could donate them, either to our project or to your lions club...but please don't throw them away as garbage...

Donate them to your local lions club.

What's your advice to me on soldering my eyeglasses frame?

It broke just above the nosepiece. What watt iron should I use? These are about 3 yrs-old, from Sears, of the "Sophia Loren" line.
I've soldered wires/pc boards in the past. Too bad there's not a gold colored solder! Or is there...?
The first thing I did was take them back to Sears, to have the lense put back in; the gal spun on her heel when she saw the frame was broke, shook her head, said, "no, I can't fix this." After 3 yrs, I wouldn't even ask them to replace it. They were $300, a 2-for-1deal, purchased with a tax refund (major splurge). I'm still using the sunglasses. I'm beyond broke, a new pair is outta' the question (Medical won't pay for nice specs like these). I believe I'll take this thing to a jeweler!

I would do one of two things, 1. get new glasses because they are old and they will break again, 2. don't solder them yourself, you can bring them to a jeweler and have them do it for you.

For people who have to wear eyeglasses in order to see clearly, they may need to change a new pair of glasses for a certain time. Maybe they have a higher prescription and can not see clearly with this pair, or maybe they are tired of the old glasses after wearing them for long time, or maybe they find an extra pair of eyeglasses will be good at their disposal. It is common that after changing a new pair, people will discard the old pair. Actually, there are several good methods to deal with these old pairs. The following will give you some ideas on it.

After you get the new pair of glasses, it is no need to throw the old pair away immediately. You can leave them in case of emergency. Of course, if your description has changed too much, it can not work. But if description just changes a little, you can still use them whenever you need them. Just imagine if your glasses are broken or stolen, what should you do if you don’t have any glasses on hand. As we know, it will take several days to adjust for a new pair of glasses. And if you still keep the old pair, you can wear them till you get the new pair. Therefore, in case of some emergency, please do not throw the old pair of glasses away if the prescription does not change a lot or the old glasses can still be useful.
