Can eyeglasses really help bad night vision?

I got some glasses a couple years ago that were supposed to help, but there's no difference. Are they a sham or what?

Not a sham in my opinion
Check with your doctor...I have night blindness ( I get the halo effect around lights like when you have been a pool for wayyy to long)...Having my glasses on eliminates this....they are no different than normal prescription glasses

Have you ever wanted to see in the dark ? How about those cool James Bond Movies where he just wears a pair of sun glasses to view in pitch black ...

eyeglasses for night a blur?

I've never worn eyeglasses for night vision until now. the first time I wore them at night while driving, any light I looked at projects a kind of prism/star shape. My glasses came with an antiglare coating. Has anyone ever had this problem? My Opt didn't know why I have this problem. The prism is only there when I wear them not when I don't. thanks

I had a patient with that same problem a couple of months ago.

My lab said it was a defect in the hydrophobic coating that was making the AR do that.

They remade the lenses with a new coating and the problem was gone.

Does wearing prescription eyeglasses continuously make your natural eyesight get worse?

Normally, I just wear my glasses for night-time driving and seeing distant objects. Some people have recommended to me that I should wear my glasses all the time. But, I've heard that wearing them all the time slowly deterioriates your natural vision and, thus, you have to keep on obtaining stronger and stronger glasses as time passes. Is this true?

If you need them all the time then wear them all the time. It's not wearing them when you need to that makes them worse. -- My husband wears eye glasses and his prescription barely changes enough to notice --

Off-the-shelf eyeglasses or prescription lenses?

Words at a distance (from couch to TV) are getting blurry for me. Especially at night. They never used to be, however, after years of working in front of a computer screen, I believe it is time for me to get glasses.

I have a friend who just bought a pair of glasses off a rack at the local pharmacy. But his vision is bad at all times, not just at night like mine. Should I just go and try out some glasses off the rack, or should I make an appointment with an eye doctor?

Would off-the-shelf glasses help with blurry vision at night?

Off the shelf glasses are just reading magnifiers , and won't help for the TV distance.

Trouble seeing the TV probably means you are a bit nearsighted, ready made reading glasses can't help that.

Get an eye exam.

how can I protect my eyes from bad weather and strong lights?

beside sunglasses, how can I protect my yes at nigh?

my eyes get so red when I go out ( at night if im not wearing sunglasses) from the weather or strong lights at shopping malls...

are there any special glasses that i can wear or can i just wear eyeglasses with plastic lenses? because my eyes vision is good

Thank you very much

You may wear tinted glasses that adjust to light intensity. Now, I suggest you see an eye doctor to get a diagnosis.

All the best!

Statistically speaking, driving at night is much more dangerous than driving during the day. Only ten percent of road miles are driven in the dark yet forty-eight percent of road fatalities occur at night. Many night vision glasses are designed to correct dark-induced myopia and reduce glare and this will make night time driving safer. There is an array of night lasses from which to choose and prices vary as well. Some are shatter resistant and some offer an anti-reflective treatment. Car manufacturers now install so many different lights on their cars (headlights, auxiliary lights, fog lights are a few examples) that it is becoming increasingly more difficult to see at night. Factor in the high intensity discharge lights that produce a brighter than normal light and you have a slew of bright lights beaming into your eyes when you drive at night. More and more people are turning to night vision glasses to help overcome this problem. It is important not to purchase a pair of these glasses that is just tinted with yellow. Experts feel that although these night vision glasses can reduce glare, they can also reduce your night vision defeating the purpose of using them.
