Is it bad to stare or look at the computer monitor while using your own eyeglasses?

An eyeglass is also the same with a magnifier glass. It magnifies a picture or an object. So does the effects of radiation to our eyes strengthen when we use eyeglasses?

eversince i am using computer in my work, my grades went up for some time. my eye doctor told me to relax my eyes from time to time to avoid further rising of the grade as well as tiredness of eyes. you need to look at something cool color to rest the eye.

Why is it that some individuals assume and or equate being visually impaired with being blind?

In the Music Category, I recently asked for help with finding a CD. I explained that I am visually impaired and have difficulty searching the net.

You need a good enema!! You seem to type pretty good for someone visually impaired. I checked on Amazon and the album is not available. I also checked Napster and it's not available there either. So, my blind friend, your plea for sympathy doesn't do you any good. I guess you're just SOL!!
I don't know that ASKING for help with doing a specific task; help with doing something that one has difficulty doing for oneself is a plea for sympathy.
Sympathy won't help me find the CD...others helping me search for it will.
Thanks to WINDOWS 98SE OS, I can click on the start menu; highlight Programs; then Accessories; then Accessibility; then highlight and click on Magnifier and use the maginfier to, you guessed it, MAGNIFY the print which HELPS me to read and proofread what I type as I type and of course other things as well.
Thankfully, the magnifier magnifies...not sympathize.
An enema, in my opinion, being good for the body, mind and spirit as well, cannot search the internet or anywhere else to help me find the CD.
I don't know what 'SOL' means; I do know that ignorant means a lack of knowledge.
For those that don't know; visually impaired means that either the sight is diminished or there is an impediment, e.g. cataract(s) to the extent that one has difficulty seeing clearly. Individuals that have a need for eyeglasses are visually impaired; they have diminished vision. Hopefully, not to the extent that others and myself are in that others and I need to use a cane when we walk to help us to not bump into things or miss steps or fall step into holes or other things in unfamiliar areas in and outdoors.
When my sight went bad, at first, I was totally blind. The only way that I can describe what being blind is, is that when I was blind I couldn't see anything. It wasn't dark, it wasn't light...it was nothing.
I have always had and believe that I will always have compassion for those that are totally blind.
I will say thank you for checking Napster.
I stated in my explanation that I had already searched Amazon.
If I had not stated that I am visually impaired, most likely, the assumption would have been that I have no vision problems.
Having no vision problems, would my query be a plea for sympathy or asking for help?
To the readers of this message; I don't need your sympahty. If you decide to assist me; please do it because you have the ability to help someone in need.

I have no experience with being blind or visually impaired, however I can say that the response to your original question had nothing to do with either. It was someone who thought that it would be funny to be an asshole at the expense of someone else. Some people just like to get their two points. Unfortunately, on yahoo, they cant weed out jerks, racists and ignoramuses! Dont take it personally, just tune them out, and hopefully someone responded with someone that would help you find the right CD. And by the way, SOL means "sh*t outta luck".... like i said, he's an asshole!

Optics Problem?

Hi, I am having trouble solving a physics problem that goes as follows:

A boy scout starts a fire by using a lens from his eyeglasses to focus sunlight on kindling 4.4 cm from the lens. The boy scout has a near point of 15.2 cm. When the lens is used as a simple magnifier, give values for the following conditions. (Hint: Assume a "normal" eye.)

(a) What is the maximum magnification that can be achieved?

(b) What is the magnification when the eye is relaxed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I tried your method, but webassign said it was wrong :-(
For the telescope problem, calculate theta o, and then multiply it by 3.8e8 m. Convert this value to miles, and that's the answer.....I have no idea how my friend got this, but it works!

Hi, thanks for answering my question with the microscope. And yes I go to UF and am in Physics 2 with Avery and Dunnam. I solved this problem already although I can't really expain why it works....I just played with the numbers.

p=+4.4
q= -(np)- 1/2p

1/p +1/q= 1/f
1/4.4 + 1/-(15.2-2.2)= 1/f
0.227 + 1/-13= 1/f
f= 6.67

Then use f to find m max for part a using m max= 1 + 25/f. for part b just use 25/f.

Good luck! and did use already solve the problem with the telescope?

I'm blind in my right eye and visually impaired in my left. I agree with you 100% and more. I hate it when people think I can't do something because of my sight or think I will *break". I;m just as normal as any other teen my age! The person who sent you that needs to look up "visually impaired" and "sympathy" in the dictionary.

As for the CD I'll try to get back to you but if I don't I got really busy with my Mobility and Braille classes on top of my regular homework.

    Low Vision Aids Help Make Your Life More Active

    Low vision can be caused by any number of reasons. Genetics can play a part, such as the low vision that is common in albinism. Accidents can have an impact on a person’s vision, as can age. As people age, they are at a greater risk for developing macular degeneration. Macular degeneration causes a loss of central vision, which is crucial for such activities as reading, watching television or seeing a computer screen clearly. There are low vision aids that can help make these activities a part of your life again. They can include bifocal reading glasses, magnifiers , and telescopic glasses. Many vision problems can be resolved by using a variety of suitable low vision products.

    Bifocal Reading Glasses

    Bifocals allow the wearer to see both near and far distances depending on which part of the eyeglass lens he or she looks through. They typically have a smaller reading lens placed in the bottom part of a regular sized lens used for distance sight. The wearer can shift focus by moving the head up or down to look through the appropriate part of the lens for the task at hand. There is also a type of bifocal that has no line where the division of lenses meet; they are called progressive or graduated lenses. These low vision reading aids come with lenses that offer minimum magnification at the top of the lens increasing to maximum magnification at the bottom of the lens.
