My eyes are -5.25 and -5.75. My glasses are very thick and not attractive. Are there any eyeglass lens options out there that are less thick and don't make my eyes look really small?
There are a several grades of "thin" lens that look like normal lenses. They are more expensive, but worth it. Any optical shop will have them. Just ask!

When I purchased my blended bifocal eyeglasses the optician offered a choice between lined bifocals and progressive lens bifocals. I was told that if I were unable to adapt to progressive lenses that they would replace them with lined bifocals at no extra cost- no refund either. I ended up purchasing blended bifocals, a different type of no line bifocal. I find I am unable to adapt to the blended lenses that cost 374.00 including the non-glare coating. I cannot do my job while wearing them (studio art professor) and feel unsafe on stairs and driving. When I tried to return them to the optician and set up an exchange for lined bifocals, I was told to come back in to their office next week to "discuss my options" when the lady in charge was there. I didn't get the feeling that this was going to go smoothly. I would have thought that any lens requiring adjustment would have an exchange policy. Now I am afraid I am going to be out a lot of money. Any ideas what the typical experience is with exchanging blended lens eyeglasses for a pair of lined bifocals? Do I have to repurchase the expensive non-glare coating? If so, I'll end up paying a bundle just for a common pair of lined bifocals. This is not a matter of taste- I think I will end up injured if I have to wear these blended no line bifocals; I can't function in them and am not able to wear them. Put plainly, I can't see with them on.

I got fitted for contact lenses about 6 months ago, but I find that my vision is constantly slightly blurry when I wear my contacts. (Also, every now and then my vision gets really blurry for about 30 seconds, but that is not really my problem). I get a lot of eyestrain and headaches, so having constantly blurry vision is not good for me. I am worried that I won't be able to continue wearing contacts.
My eyeglasses prescription is

SPH +1.................... +1
CYL - 0.25.................... - 0.5
AXI 125.................... 60
ADD 0.................... 0
PD............... 58
My contact lens prescription is
OD (Right)....................OS (Left)
SPH +.75.................... +1
CYL nil.................... - 0.75
AXI nil.................... 70

The astigmatism is worse in my left eye, and I am left eye dominant. My optometrist said that the astigmatism in my right eye is too small to be corrected by contact lenses (she said the 'market' for them was too small for companies to bother making contact lenses for that size). She tried to balance off the effects of my right eye astigmatism by distorting the 'true' contact lens prescription for my left eye.
The results of this are far from perfect. I cannot even wear my contact lenses because I get so much eyestrain and constant blurriness.
From what my optometrist said it sounds like all my contact lens problems would be solved if only my right eye was worst - if only the astigmatism was severe enough to be correctable with contact lenses. My glasses prescription is perfect for me, but not my contact lens prescription.
What other contact lens options do I have? I am using Acuvue Oasys lenses (Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism in my left eye only). I have heard that RPG lenses give better clarity of vision. Is that an option for me? Is it possible for me to buy contact lenses from other companies that are perfect for my right eye astigmatism?
From google-searching it sounds like I have an "oblique astigmatism" which means my astigmatism, although quite low, has a greater-than-normal effect on my vision. It also means that when I blink my contact lens shifts more than for most contact-wearers, and I get very blurry vision for several seconds.
Thanks so much for any advice ;)
An astigmatism is the result of the shape of your eye, rather than a problem with the lens- which is why contacts don't do much to help. A contact can reshape the front part of the eye, but it won't change it the rest of the way around. Astigmatics tend to have rather egg shaped eyes, rather than the usual spherical shape. That difference changes how light focuses in the eye. Your eye would ordinarily compensate by using the muscles that control the lens, and allow you to force the focus for a while. That is, until they got tired- and that's probably what's really behind your eye strain. If you want to wear contacts, you would want to ask your optometrist if you could try a toric lens. Those do come in a soft form. Not all of the optometrists like to fit them, although it's not any more difficult, it can be slightly more time consuming. But for low cylinder astigmatics, or really any astigmatic person, they can provide a better correction than the standard type lens. If your doctor won't be bothered, find another who will do it. I will warn you though, they are about twice the price of your current contacts.

I'm 44 years old and my doctor is strongly recommending the Restor lens for cataract lens replacement. From what I've been reading, I'm not so sure it is the best option. If I go with monofocal lenses, will I be able to achieve good reading and intermediate vision with contact lenses? (I currently wear monofocal contact lenses). My eyeglass prescription is -7 with Add Low for reading.
There's no right answer to that, as it's going to depend utterly on a individual's vision, history, needs and personality.
If you've adapted *well* to monovision in contacts, my suspicion is that you'd be happiest aiming to preserve that situation with the appropriate single vision implants.
On everything I've read so far, when my time comes (possibly only 5 years off) I'm going for single-vision implants aiming for -2.25 R&L, with the intention of wearing glasses for driving and television.
(Which I don't do, much, compared to the amount of reading and closework I do: a personal weighting to the decision.)
I am having a bad luck with my lenses. I went to a good optical place and they sold me good plastic lenses with crizal forte coating. The thing is I work in a kitchen and so every time they get exposed to heat they get crazing. The store is awesome and has replaced them every time. I think this will be the fourth time they replaced them. They are giving me the option of what to replace them with, at no charge to me. I have always had plastic lenses with anti reflective coating. I have been wearing glasses for 21 years. The optical store has recommended either an non-coated glass, or a non-coated plastic lens. They recommend the non-coated lens because that is what is being affected by the high heat at my job.
So what type of lens do I get? Glass or plastic
Is it going to be really difficult to get used to having no coatings on my glasses?
Remember I work in a high heat setting. A proffesional kitchen.
Thanks
The glass material is very heavy on the face. So when you start to perspire it will just get more annoying. I would go with the polycarbonate material over regular plastic for safety reasons. You will notice the non-glare coating not being on them but you have to see if this is going to be annoying not having it on the lenses.
