Eyeglasses Hinge

The hinge didn't come off, but snapped in half, screw still in place. These were really nice glasses and haven't seen there last day, and a new pair isn't an option, not sure about glue, any thoughts?

Many of the places gaurantee glasses for a certain amount of time, it is worth asking, the worst they can say is "no they aren't". If the part of the hinge that broke is the part on the arm, you might be able to take the arms off another old pair of glasses and substitute them. It depends on the color/style; sometime it works, sometimes it just looks wierd. The piece of metal that the hinge it made out of is so tiny that gluing, soldering, etc is not going to work, as there isn't enough surface area to make a good, solid bond.

I assumed you were talking about plastic frames, if the side things are metal, you might be able to silver solder the broken hinge and "clean it up" with jeweler's files like the other guy said, but it will take a certain degree of skill and patience that not eveybody has.

ive tried using tape and glue.are there any other ways of repairing it?

They sell replacement screws at most optical or hardware stores,Metal frames have to be spot welded so precise that the average person can't do it.And plastic frames are too soft for most plastic cements.

The flex hinge keeps your glasses from bending the sidepiece; it also keeps the glasses from sliding down your nose, keeping the glasses in place. (You can pull them
outwardly about 2 inches and they "flex back.)
The regular hinge connects with a screw, can only fold inwardly without breakage and holds on sidepieces.
Less side pieces are broken with the flex hinge.

What I need specifically is a hinge that connects the left frame piece to the front of the frame. This piece broke and is Prada specific. The frame is model vpr07h. The needed hinge is silver in color.

Lenscrafters sell Prada brand...they will be able to order the part for you, if it is still available.

This is mainly for driving. I need correction for distance and for reading. I have difficulty turning my head, so when I look over my shoulder before changing lanes my vision is interrupted by the hinge on regular glasses, and/or by the distorted area in progressive lenses.

Prescription lenses usually can't be made with much of a wrap around effect. It creates even more distortion to begin with....and with blended bifocals of any type, it would be even worse.

Perhaps you can find a frame where the hinge and temple is higher than your eye so you don't see it when you look sideways.
