Where can I find an optometrist in Virginia that take medicaid to provide children's eyeglasses?

My daughter just went to an optometrist who says she needs glasses to read. She needs to wear them all throughout school, but he didn't provide glasses paid by medicaid. Just exams. I've called all kinds of eyewear places but I'm having no luck. Please help. I can't afford $100-150 for glasses right now.

is it child neglect for a mother to not buy her child eyeglasses?

i know a mother who hasnt bought her child eyeglasses in about 6-7 months. the worse thing is, she is having her child wear HER glasses, which are not the childs prescription, obviously. the other child also needs glasses and has none. is this child neglect?
money is not a factor in this case. she recieves child support and her ex husband provides vision insurance on the children. but she still doesnt take them.

yes it's neglect - possibly not in it's worst manifestation, but it's neglect all the same. everyone's eyes are different - by making her kids wear her glasses, she'll be damaging their eyes. if you wear the wrong prescription, you'll experience headaches. could feel dizzy, and your eyes will hurt from straining to focus through lenses which might be too strong or too weak.

Also lenses are shaped so that the focal point through which you look is in the centre of the lens. Due to the difference of proportions in an adult and a child, even if her child is an identical prescription, by the fact that their face is smaller, they will not be looking through the focal point, but through the edges of the lens.

I do also wonder how the mother copes with day to day tasks, as surely she can't see properly when her children are wearing her glasses......

Accessories for children with eyeglasses?

Does anyone know where I can find things like eyeglass chains, clips and cases for children? I have had no problems finding accessories for adults, or even teenagers, but my 6 year old is getting her first pair of glasses today, and she needs a chain for them. Any help would be appreciated.
lol....yes, we tried every retailer in our area. They all suck! Wal Mart is actually where we're getting the glasses from. Thanks on the make it yourself though. I might end up doing that.

Hey there,
Why don't you go to a craft shop and buy a length of chain/cord (it does not necessarily have to be one for glasses) and then buy some beads, charms etc. to customize it? You should also be able to buy the links or clips you will need to attach it to the glasses. Your daughter will probably enjoy doing this herself as well, and it's good as if you buy lots of different beads, etc. at once you can constantly change the look!
Hope this helps....

I'm looking for eyeglasses band for children?

Hello everybody! My son who is 2 years old, have to wear prescription eyeglasses. The problem is he won't keep them on and he have to or his eyes will get worser. Some people inform me of a band that connects to the glasses and goes around the head so the child will keep them on hopefully. The problem is I can't find it no where so I'm looking on the net for more info. Can someone please help me who knows where I can purchase this band or more info about it so I can help my son keep on his glasses. Please don't say just make him keep them on because he is also disabled. Thankyou.

I don't know about the band that you are talking about...but one thing you might try are temple tips that wrap right around his ear...a lot of parents use them when it comes to young children...try your local optical store...they may also be able to rig up something for him using a regular sunglass lanyard...they may be able to adjust it at the back of his head.

Can a child ballet student wear eyeglasses / spectacles?

My son has asked if he can do Ballet even though he wears corrective eyeglasses / spectacles full time. He is long-sighted and needs to wear them for normal vision. Contact lenses are not an option. Before asking a Ballet School I wished to find out if it's a possible problem ? Before we visit one. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.
I'm trying to find out before asking a Ballet school, because I don't want them to say "No" out of prejudice, or simply because they don't like it.

I wore glasses from the time I was 8 years old, and I danced. I wore them for class, but took them off for performances, and by the time I went to take them off, I already knew the dance and everyone else's placement in it well enough that not seeing well wasn't a big problem. The only concern for wearing glasses in class comes when you get into more advanced classes and start doing lots of powerful turns and jumps, and this would be especially a concern for a boy, since that's the main focus of men's technique. You don't want them flying off. Either remove them for exercises that pose this concern, or get a strap to keep them in place.

Glasses should be placed appropriately. While temporarily putting off them, children mustn't allow lenses to directly contact with desktop. You should put your glasses in the box when sleeping in order to protect the lens from wearing, tearing and crushing. Glasses box should not be too soft, otherwise after crushing for a long term it can deform the legs of glasses and affect sight to a certain inclination if worn. Do not wape the glasses with normal clothes nor finger when there are some dusts or dirty on.. This would wear the glasses and delimish the transparency, and the glasses would be opaqued as being covered by fog day by day. If there is oil or other dirty things on the lenses, you should blow it to make them merge in the water and then wipe it with the glasses cloth. If children's eyeglass frames lenses damaged, or can not properly correct visual acuity, you should promptly go to the hospital for examination, optometry, re-wear the proper glasses. When the children do sports or make other violent activities, should remove the glasses, put it into the spectacle case. According to children's vivacious and active characteristics, frames are often made of plastic and plexiglass. This kind of frame is wider, comfortable while wearing, but not easily broken nor hurt children's eyes. Besides they are cheap, and well received by most people. Frame size should be appropriate, some parents and children think that bigger frames are good-looking, while others believe that frames with small size are not easy to swap, which are incomplete views. Too big or too small frame will deviate kid's eyes from optical center. It can not only achieve the effect of vision correction, but also accelerate refractive errors, and even affect the normal development of the face. Thus, children should be in line with their head, facial shape and orbital development to select their own suitable eyeglasses online frames and timely replace them with the constant development.
