What's the name of the plastic rack used to display eyeglasses in stores?

It's usually white/translucent and flexible.

They are simply called acrylic frame displays.

What happens to old models of clear eyeglasses once they are no longer on display?

You know those eyeglass stores or whatever have all those clear glasses for you to try on to see what glasses you want? well once they no longer need a certain pair, what happens to them? are they thrown out, saved, sold? please i really am curious!

Actually, when an optical store is managed right, there are very few old frames around.

When we buy them, we can return them usually within 90 days if it is a model that isn't selling well , or at least exchange for newer , different models when the sales rep from that specific company comes around again...which is usually every 3 months.

Those frames are then sold by them again to another store where they may sell better.

Eventually, even the suppliers end up with an over stock of frames that don't sell well, so then they are picked up by the cheapo discount optical places.

I buy discontinued models sometimes also for a separate display board that can be sold real cheap for those who want an inexpensive 2nd or 3rd pair of glasses.

So, there you have it...there aren't many old ones around that aren't useful to someone.

Can I use eyeglasses that were a display model?

My sister-in-law use to work for an eye doctor and she gave me a pair of floor model eyeglasses, she said I can take it to an optical store and they will put in the lenses that I need. I want to know if I go to a store will they know that the frames are a floor model? The frames don't have any lenses in them right now she took them out. I just want to make sure I don't want to look like a fool if I walk in to the store and they know that the frames are a floor model pair. Any impute would help..Thanks

Usually a floor model is hard to recognize, and otherwise: who cares! It is not that they are charging any additional costs for glazing a shop model.

If you want to save some money, you could also think about ordering the lenses online. I know that for example www.smartbuyglasses.com has a re-glaze service. I have order some prescription glasses in the past with them and I can really recommend them. Anyways, it never hurts to contact some online optical stores to see if they can be of any help.

How does "memory eyeglasses" works?

I am curious about this invention about the high-tech memory glasses that helps improve the persons memory without doing anything. I wonder, how does it works in a person. I've read that the specs has a tiny tv screen or computer display cliped into glasses frame and hooked up to a PDA and this PDA is programmable. Each prompt is geared to jog the wearers memory. My question is how does it work to help jog one's memory (is there any chip planted in your body??) This memory eyeglasses also reminds a person of something they knew already. What is this Subliminal cueing (method of increasing your memory) all about??? I hope you'll be very helpful guys to share with me more about this invention especially its fundamentals, functions and uses. Thank you so much and God bless!!!

I'll accept the end blessing, but I think the device is still in it's infancy as regards the actual device and it's operation. While possible, as you have described it, the real world construction and application is a few years away, at least for public release. You might want to consider how you phrase a question since "does" in the header line is out of place.

With so many of us using computers at work, computer eye strain has become one of the major office-related health complaints. Studies* show that eye strain and other bothersome visual symptoms occur in 50 percent to 90 percent of computer workers.

These problems can cause physical fatigue, decreased productivity and increased numbers of work errors.

Here are steps both workers and employers can take to reduce computer eye strain and the other common symptoms of computer vision syndrome (CVS):

    1. Get a computer eye exam.

This is the most important thing you can do to prevent or treat computer vision problems. According to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), computer users should have an eye exam before they start working on a computer and once a year thereafter. Be sure to tell your eye doctor how often you use a computer at work and at home.
