I have sensitive eyes and the alcohol in eyeglass cleaner seems to linger on my glasses and creates some type of reaction that really iritates my eyes. I've tried Bausch & Lomb Sightsavers and Flents ... both were irritating. I'm contemplating trying a contact lens solution as an eyeglass cleaner. Any suggestions?
If you are having problems with prepared eyeglass cleaning solutions, the best thing for cleaning glasses is simply soap and water. You can use a dish washing type liquid soap that cuts oils. Just hold your eyeglasses under the faucet long enough to get the lens surfaces wet. Then take a small amount of soap and rub the front and back surfaces of the lenses between your thumb and other fingers. Then just rinse it off. Make sure and dry the lenses with a cotton type towel the consistency of a baby diaper. Best to just use a cotton baby diaper.
Use a 2 oz. bottle, dark-colored Pour in: 1 oz. (~2T) apple cider viinegar 1 oz. water 1 drop castile soap 1-2 drops essential oil of choice ...
I need to buy eye glass cleaner. Specifically the pre-moistened wipes.
Which is better quality? Lenscrafters or Wal Mart?
Just asking because I've read that the Wal Mart brand leaves streaks.
w b, can you clarify?
Lenscrafters is everywhere also.
Both are corporate.
I would go with lenscrafters. They are an actual eyewear business. Walmart, is all spread out.

For some reason, my glasses catch fingerprints easily (even if I never touch them), and using the cloth that came with them alone never really works. If I can't use glass cleaner, what can i do to make my glasses clean again? (and no, I am not willing to put vinegar on them.)
Really, the best thing to use is simply soap and water. The soap removes the oils left by fingerprints very well. I am wondering as to whether your eyeglasses have an anti reflective coating. Anti reflective coatings work well when they are clean but in the real world I have found they are very frustrating for patients to keep clean. Oil type deposits cause glaring obvious reflections because the surrounding lens surface without the finger print has low reflectivity but the oily fingerprint is HIGHLY reflective.
If indeed you have anti reflective lenses you might try changing to a new antireflective lens called "Alize". The company isn't saying how they've done it but they have succefully developed an antireflective coating that does NOT show fingerprinting and is easily maintained and kept clean.
Oh, and don't forget. The most important aspect of cleaning your glasses is not the liquid you use but the type clothe you use. Always clean the lens surface thoroughly and rinse any debri off before drying with a soft cotton type clothe the consistency of a baby diaper. Any debri on the lens can act as an abrasive when you wipe and dry the lens. And any cloth less soft than a baby diaper can potentially scratch the lens over time. Hope this helped.

The optometrist office told me that Windex damages the non-scratch coating on plastic lenses. If your lenses are glass and not plastic I guess it wouldn't matter.
My glasses, which have reflective coating, etc. and which were very expensive, now have stains on the lenses. I suppose this is hairspray? I can't think of what else would make such a sort-of shiny stain.
I've tried eyeglass cleaner, and soap and water, to no avail. My eye doctor just wants me to buy a new pair, of course.
No one seems to be available (Sears, etc.) to buff this off.....
Any ideas?
It's possible that the hairspray ate through the coating. Try soaking the glasses in some plain water, as this will soften the spots of hairspray if it's dried on there...if that doesn't work it's possible the coating was permanently damaged.
The only other suggestion I could make is to try applying some alcohol to a Q-Tip and experiment on one of the specks of hairspray to see if that works.
