In July, I had trouble seeing and consulted with an optometrist who takes my medical insurance. He said that I had a cataract and it could probably be corrected with a new eyeglass prescription. My vision insurance, which is separate from my medical insurance, allows me to get glasses every other year. I am not eligible until April 2008, but they have a medical exception form where, if I have a medical condition necessitating a new prescription, they will allow it. I had the optometrist fill out the form and send it in. I waited a few weeks and didn't hear anything, so I called the vision insurance company. They said because the doctor that filled out the form wasn't one of their participating providers, the form was invalid. Then I asked if I could go to one of their providers and was informed that I was ineligible until April. It's a Catch-22. Since I need two pairs - one for distance and one for close-up and eyeglasses run about $550 a pair, what should I do?
If you have surgery to remove the cataract, then medical insurance (not vision insurance) will cover the surgery and one pair of glasses.
I have been wearing eyeglasses for around 13 years, and it seems that instead of the glasses fixing & improving my vision it hasn't. So what can I do to actually improve my vision. For example my prescription March 2006 was OS:-6.75x-3.00x178, OD:-6.50x-2.75x006 and March 2008 was OS:-6.50x-2.75x177, OD:-6.50x-2.75x004.

glasses only improve your vision when you're wearing them... they don't correct it permanently.

We wonder if SpecSavers is British for LensCrafters? A LITTLE girl was left suffering headaches and nausea over two years after bungling opticians fitted her spectacle lenses the WRONG WAY round. Specsavers staff mixed up the left and right prescription lenses for seven-year-old Tayla Don. The best part of this article is that SpecSuckers gave the girl a bottle of lens cleaner for their mistake? WHAT A JOKE! Worried mum Beverley, 39, ended up taking her daughter to hospital – where a routine eye inspection revealed the blunder. She said: “We’d wondered why her eyesight wasn’t getting better. I’d thought several times the glasses didn’t seem to be doing much good at all.
“I hope it hasn’t caused permanent damage.”
Beverley bought the pink-framed glasses in June 2008 at her locals Specsavers in Milton Keynes, Bucks – and took them back when Tayla’s symptoms emerged. But staff said her headaches and feelings of sickness were a normal reaction and would pass. Tayla has now been given a stronger prescription by doctors and fitted with new specs. Beverley said: “She said things were no longer blurry, so we assume the old glasses blurred her vision.”
