I need a new pair of sunglasses but can't find something I like. If I buy a pair of vintage eyeglass frames, is it possible for an eye doctor/Pearle Vision (or whatever) cut out custom sunglass lenses to fit? I don't need prescription lenses or anything.
If so, about how much would that cost?
As long as the frame is in good condition and as long as the frame is made for optical lenses then many places should do it. I would stay away from any old plastic vintage frames because they tend to deteriorate. Putting new lenses in them could damage the frames. As long as the optical has the appropriate equipment (most opticals have edging machines that trace the lens shape before it cuts them) then there should be no problems. The price will depend on what type of lenses you are getting . Whether they are prescription or Plano (non prescription) and if they are either tinted or polarized will make a difference in the price! You should expect to pay at least $60+ for new lenses! I would call around to see which opticals will do this for you!
Good luck!

I was cleaning the dashboard of my car with Armor-all vinyl, rubber, plastic, etc. protectant, when I spotted my Oakley Half-Jackets in the glove box. I removed the lenses and proceeded to apply & rub some of the armor-all solution on the frames and rubber pieces.
Will this help keep the frames and rubber pieces from premature wear & tear?
I use to use Armor All on my car all the time, but I stop using it because if you stop using it for a while everything starts to crack.... Tires, Dash everything started cracking.

like if I bought some big, large sunglasses
and used them as eyeglass frames.
would it work?
are they too cheap to be used as eyeglasses?
hahaha... I guess that it depends on the frame..
But if you're saying big, larger sunglasses... I wouldn't.

I wear prescription eyeglasses and now want to wear sunglasses without having to apply contact lenses first. How can I?
I think you have 4 options; you can just get prescription sunglasses almost anywhere, you can get the covers to snap on glasses, or you can get those "transitions" that automatically darken when you come out in the light. http://www.transitions.com/ Or... you could even get Lasik, then just wear sunglasses.
I'm looking for new prescription eyeglass frames (not sunglasses) for a 13 year old girl. I want to choose a brand that is "in" - something that is high end, prestigious and well-known. The price must be US $500 or less. Thank you.
In a side note, what do you guys think of the brand "Lafont"? Is it in the same league as D&G, Prada and Bvlgari, or am I totally off-base?
D&G makes eyeglasses and so do DKNY, Prada, Burberry, Bvlgari, and Versace. Armani Exchange also makes eyeglasses.
Most teens who wear designer frames choose D&G, which are recognizable due to the large "D&G" lettering on the temples. Prada, Burberry, Bvlgari, Versace, and Ralph Lauren have smaller lettering on the sides and are typically more "classic." Meaning that it will probably be easier to find D&G in bright colors than Prada in bright colors.
Many teens also pick Vogue, which isn't a high-end brand but is pretty popular.
Generally all of the brands I mentioned are priced at about $300-400 per frame which is within your price range. It might be a little too much for a 13-year-old (I'm 13) since we teens move around a lot and if she's not extra careful, she may damage them. But if she's responsible enough and takes care to wipe her lenses off a few times every day and use a case when she's not wearing them, it's worth the investment since designer frames are so pretty and fairly strong. :D
