Eyeglass Rimless

Hi, I have started importing rimless eyewear frames(brandless) from India and China. Now these are great quality and i am giving a one year warranty on these frames. I am ready to sell it in wholesale(min. 10 orders for $30/frame) and to individuals(i am mostly looking for wholesale) for $50. But my problem is that the local retailers who sell these frames(similar frames) for $220 are not ready to buy from me as they say that they want a company backing me up. How do i make a start? What should be my strategy? I truly beleive that the market for frames have a monopoly charging ridiculous prices for frames and the people deserve much better and cheaper prices and that is the reason i started importing it. Can anyone advice me what my strategy should be and why would the people be/not be interested in a product like this?

Couple of issues.

1. If you are aproaching these companies as an individual and they're wanting a company to "back you up", I would strongly suggest you either set yourself up with a business lic. under a fictitious name. This can be done through your county. The other alternative would be to set up a corporation through your state or a different state, Nevada being a popular choice. The corporation would give you tax benefits and personal asset protection but is more complicated and costly.

2. Economies of scale. If you are importing 10 units per month the companies you aproach are importing 1000 units per month greatly lowering their cost.

Suggestions:

1. Try ebay you might be surprised at the results.

2. Attend trade shows specificly related to the product you are selling.

I was wondering what you think of semi rimless eyeglasses. Do you like them? Are they popular to wear these days? I am interested in getting a pair, but would like to see how many people like them, or dislike them.

Depends what your age is, if your under 30 i wouldn't suggest wearing them, semi rimmed glasses are for the more older and sophisticated people on my point of view.

I have found that Walmart and Costco both have good prices- but I would stick to brand name frames if possible. You might want to consider looking around on the web too. Sometimes if you find a frame you like in a store you can have them write down the frame information and search the web to find it cheaper. I listed a link to some info on buying glass on the web- it doesn't list specific sites, just general guidlines.

The length of the anti-reflective coating chip is about 2 millimeters and the thickness of the chip is literally hairline but I am afraid that if I don't fix it sooner, it will start peeling away and make it larger. It is only present on the upper rim on my right lens. Can I buy an AR coating that can be applied to the chip with a small pointy brush?

no, the anti reflection coating is not painted on, its applied onto an uncut new lens in a vacuum chamber. It cannot be repaired or removed entirely either.
