My eyeglasses are corrective, they help with reading text and seeing things at a distance. However, I am seeing way to much of the bifocal part of the lens and its making me a bit dizy. Is this because my eyes are still adjusting to this perscription I have had for only two days now, the biofocal part of my eyeglasses being to big, or just that my eyeglasses are sitting on my face wrong?
It's probably just that you need more time to get used to them. I have blended "omnifocals," and I spent about the first week playing the game I call "find the focus." You roll your head up and down (looking like an idiot if anyone's watching), finding the best focus you can get for a given viewing situation. You may find, for example, that at times you have to hold your head up in what looks like a snobbish way, or roll it down as if you were being shy.
If you don't adjust after a week or so, you might ask the guy who fitted the frames to your face whether they need adjusting.
Kara finds that with coloured tinted lenses, reading problems due to dyslexia are overcome.
I wear non-prescription "cheaters" magnifying eyeglasses for reading only (the kind you buy at the drugstore). My problem is that I become disoriented when frequently switching (in a short time period) between tasks that require reading and those that do not. Will precscription glasses help this?
Consider prescription bifocals, once you get used to them you should not have these symptoms.

Maybe you are refering to plano lenses (lenses which have no power, just cosmetic). I don't know if they sell these in stores, you might have to go to an eyeglasses place and get them made (will cost almost as much as "real" glasses).

I think I might be close to legally blind, but I can't get to doctor to explain my eyeglass prescription, I just don't know what all the numbers mean. For my right eye the doctor wrote: (sph) -50, (cyl) - 575, and (axis) 10. Then for my left eye it says: (sph) -225, (cyl) - 300, and (axis) 180. What the hell does this mean? Thanks to anyone who can tell me.
The first number you see in an eyeglass prescription is the sphere "sph". This number indicates the degree of hyperopia (farsightedness) or myopia (nearsightedness) in the eye. Plus (+) power indicates hyperopia, while minus (–) power indicates myopia.
So since it is (-) you have myopia (nearsightedness) and the number just indicates the power in diopters that is needed in the lens to bend the light correctly on your retina. When you are myopic your eyeball is longer and the light focuses in front of your retina. You need a minus lens to bring the light to focus onto the retina.
Cylinder:
The second part of the of the prescription cylinder "cyl" indicates that you have an astigmatism. Astigmatism is the amount that the refractive structures of the eye (primarily, the front and back surfaces of the cornea and the front and back surfaces of the crystalline lens) vary or deviate from sphericity or a spherical shape. So it basically means your cornea or crystalline lens is shaped cylindrical like a football instead of spherical like a baseball. This causes the light to focus in two different locations on the retina causing blurry vision.
Axis:
The last number is the axis (you only have axis if you have cyl) The axis number doesn't mean that your vision is good or bad.....it is just the angle required for the prescription in your lenses to correct your vision
Because you have 2 different powers (sph and cyl) in each eye that means in each lens you need those 2 different powers in it. The axis just tells the person who makes the glasses at what angle each power is at.
You are myopic and have a significant amount of astigmatism you can tell if the "Cyl" number is higher.
Hope this helps a bit hun :)

Problems that Require Attention in Purchasing Reading Eyeglasses ...
At first, go to formal optical store and let’s professional optometrists to examine your eyes. Then you will get a copy of your prescription after the optometry according to the law. A word of caution:the professional assistant is necessary to guide you in picking up reading glasses in order to make sure that the lenses’ centre of your reading eyeglasses is in line with the centre of your eyes.
When it comes to the quality of glasses frame, please take following options into consideration:
Elasticity is one of the aspects in determining the quality of frame. To good frames, the plating should be slick and glittering. Usually the welding spots of good frame is small, even and sleek. Quality frames require qualified product parts assembly. The lenses’ size and shape of quality frame should be just the same, and the nosepiece shoulde be symmetrical. For old aged people to purchase reading eyeglasses , one can choose either single vision lenses or bifocals . The key is to get the lenses with good transmission of light. While, the lenses of old people are harder and harder. Moreover, old people are beset with weakened accommodation power and aging eyes organization. In order to ease the vision and to be easier to look objects near and far, it is suggested to buy bifocals ; progressive lenses will be better. They are good for people to protect eyes.
