Where Can I Donate Eyeglasses?

My dad died and left behind several pairs of readers plus some empty frames. Is there a place where I can donate them? The Lions Club used to have collection barrels in stores but I haven't seen one in years. My dad was always helping people, this would make him happy.

Lions Clubs still take eyeglasses. They have collection sites at Good Will Industries, Lens Crafters, and Lions Clubs dropboxes. If you can't find any of these in your area, glasses can also be mailed in either a padded envelope or box to the following address:

New Eyes for the Needy
549 Millburn Avenue

Illuminators Night Readers with Di Morrissey on Mornings with Kerri-Anne

Best selling Australian author Di Morrissey appears on Mornings with Kerri-Anne wearing Illuminators Night Readers Reading Glasses, they're ...

when getting a new perscription lenses, can you use your own glasses?

i was wondering, when you get your new perscription lenses, can you take your own frames you got somewhere else and have the lenses fit to those or do you need to get a pair of frames from that particular eyeglass store you got the perscription lenses from? cuz i got a cute pair of glasses that i liked at this other store but they dont have real lenses. they have a frame like readers glasses but regular eyeglasses size. would there be any way to ask my eye doctor if i could have them put my new lenses in those or would i have to buy a frame from my eye place? anyone know?
so to further my question, cuz i dont have a way to personally question the person that first answered my question, im wanting to clarify, so if i get an eye exam and they give me new lenses and i say "i have these frames i got at so an so place, would you fit the new lenses for these?" they could do it? my eye doctor doesnt have frames i want.
how much does it cost if you use your own frames you got somewhere else?

You can do it, but it really depends on the frame. It must be an ophthalmic frame, not one off the shelf like an over the counter reader, or one bought at a store like J. Crew or American Eagle. Those are for looks only and not meant for ophthalmic lenses.

If it's a drill mount (completely rimless) there needs to be a specific pattern to copy. At the place I work, we will not do them unless we sold them originally, because we won't have the pattern.

If they're semi-rimless, we will do them, but they're harder to trace without the original demo lenses, so you may have small gaps in the corners.

If it's metal, the screws have to be in good shape, and the spring hinges, if there are any, as well.

If it's plastic, it needs to be flexible, or it may not stand installation. Plastic frames tend to get brittle the older they get.

I'm not sure how it is at all stores, but at mine, we will tell you, we are not liable if the frame breaks because we warned you that it could, and we did not sell it to you. If the lab technician says it's good, you should be fine. As for cost, some places charge a fee for using your own frames, like Costco charges $18 for even looking at them to tell you if they can be used or not, but the place I work at doesn't charge you to use your own at all.

How do you feel about someone who wears glasses and not contacts running for V.P.? (Please read details)?

Regardless of your views, please type an answer to the applicable question 1 and then read the entire post. If, after reading the entire post, you do not want to submit your answer, that is fine, but please type one and then read the entire post.

Question 1 FOR McCAIN SUPPORTERS:

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and First Lady Laura Bush do not have perfect unaided vision either, but they wear contacts so that they do not need to wear glasses in public. Sarah Palin does wear glasses in public. Should someone like that be Vice President?

If you plan to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket, type your answer to question 1 now, before reading further.

Question 1 FOR OBAMA SUPPORTERS:

If Sarah Palin is not elected Vice President, this will prove to the world that the nation is so prejudiced against eyeglass wearers that we voted against her out of prejudice against eyeglass wearers. Knowing that, how can you vote against her?

If you plan to vote for the Obama/Biden ticket, please type your answer to question 1 now, before you read any further.

ALL READERS, continue here AFTER you have written your answer to the applicable question 1:

You probably said that this had nothing to do with her qualifications to be Vice President. You may have accused me of being prejudiced against wearers of eyeglasses (in reality, I am one myself). You might even have pointed out that since I used only women as examples in my question, I seem to be holding them to a different standard than men (actually, I just did not know which male politicians wear glasses or contacts).

Question 2:

How are any of the following more legitimate to consider than Palin's eyeglasses:

a. Obama's middle name
b. How many children Palin has
c. Anything involving Palin's future granddaughter
d. What church is attended by the Palins
e. What church used to be attended by the Obamas
f. What unrelated person's name is similar to Obama's

I have seen comments here, and elsewhere, treating all of these as though they were serious, or at least germane, considerations in deciding how to vote.

I agree that Palin's glasses are completely irrelevant, and I assume that everyone else does as well. That is why I chose them for this question.

Now, explain this: If you have considered any of the other topics that I enumerated in "a" through "f" above, or have encouraged others to do so, or asked questions about them in this forum, what made that topic any more appropriate than Palin's glasses.
From the response so far, it is obviously that the majority of responders did not read to the end. I do not consider Palin's eyeglasses to have anything to do with whether she should be Vice President, and I wear glasses myself. I asked this question to make a point about those who raise other points also do not relate to who should be elected (such as the candidates' religions, names, etc.). Several responders seem to be taking this seriously. Ironically, I selected eyeglasses specifically because they are obviously something to consider seriously in deciding how to vote.
Glasses are obviously NOT something to consider seriously in deciding how to vote. Let's see how many more responders think that I believe the sentence "they [glasses] are obviously something to consider seriously in deciding how to vote".

Some internet users fall for things that are so obvious... This may not have helped by understanding of the election, but I now understand much better how 419 (Nigerian funds) scams are able to find victims.
And that last detail should have said "my understanding", not "by understanding". Was there anyone who did not find that typo obvious and needed it explained?

I'm not going to answer your question cause I don't think that's what you were looking for.

I will, however, agree with you - there are too many inconsequential things being brought up this election that have little or no effect on what these four people can and will do for America. I believe that people are fixating on such things because everything else - the economy, how long the war has gone on, etcetera - is far too upsetting to think about constantly. That's easier to swallow than thinking that Americans are now really that shallow.

I'm also here to assure you that you are smart, you are funny, and that sometimes people need to get more well-versed in sarcasm.

To the Y!A community - don't answer a question if you can't bother to read it.

Why is it that some individuals assume and or equate being visually impaired with being blind?

In the Music Category, I recently asked for help with finding a CD. I explained that I am visually impaired and have difficulty searching the net.
This is a reply that was posted on Yahoo Answers:
by 'dickn2000':
You need a good enema!! You seem to type pretty good for someone visually impaired. I checked on Amazon and the album is not available. I also checked Napster and it's not available there either. So, my blind friend, your plea for sympathy doesn't do you any good. I guess you're just SOL!!
I don't know that ASKING for help with doing a specific task; help with doing something that one has difficulty doing for oneself is a plea for sympathy.
Sympathy won't help me find the CD...others helping me search for it will.
Thanks to WINDOWS 98SE OS, I can click on the start menu; highlight Programs; then Accessories; then Accessibility; then highlight and click on Magnifier and use the maginfier to, you guessed it, MAGNIFY the print which HELPS me to read and proofread what I type as I type and of course other things as well.
Thankfully, the magnifier magnifies...not sympathize.
An enema, in my opinion, being good for the body, mind and spirit as well, cannot search the internet or anywhere else to help me find the CD.
I don't know what 'SOL' means; I do know that ignorant means a lack of knowledge.
For those that don't know; visually impaired means that either the sight is diminished or there is an impediment, e.g. cataract(s) to the extent that one has difficulty seeing clearly. Individuals that have a need for eyeglasses are visually impaired; they have diminished vision. Hopefully, not to the extent that others and myself are in that others and I need to use a cane when we walk to help us to not bump into things or miss steps or fall step into holes or other things in unfamiliar areas in and outdoors.
When my sight went bad, at first, I was totally blind. The only way that I can describe what being blind is, is that when I was blind I couldn't see anything. It wasn't dark, it wasn't light...it was nothing.
I have always had and believe that I will always have compassion for those that are totally blind.
I will say thank you for checking Napster.
I stated in my explanation that I had already searched Amazon.
If I had not stated that I am visually impaired, most likely, the assumption would have been that I have no vision problems.
Having no vision problems, would my query be a plea for sympathy or asking for help?
To the readers of this message; I don't need your sympahty. If you decide to assist me; please do it because you have the ability to help someone in need.

I have no experience with being blind or visually impaired, however I can say that the response to your original question had nothing to do with either. It was someone who thought that it would be funny to be an asshole at the expense of someone else. Some people just like to get their two points. Unfortunately, on yahoo, they cant weed out jerks, racists and ignoramuses! Dont take it personally, just tune them out, and hopefully someone responded with someone that would help you find the right CD. And by the way, SOL means "sh*t outta luck".... like i said, he's an asshole!

the last 2 days Ibeen very dizzy 1 02 options it can be inner ear or 2 eyeglasses?

with different prescriptions i is a reader kind and 1 is prescribe by eye doctor how long will it last shouldn i go to the eye doctor or ear thanks
imeant to say 1 or 2 options

You are right to go over what is new in your life - because that's where the cause most likely lies.
It would be a good idea to have your ears checked as otitis media can definitely cause one to feel giddy.
If it isn't caused by your ears, then it could very well be the new glasses - both types.
Alternately, look at what else is new in your life - are you on a new script? [I was once on a prescribed antibiotic and THAT made me dizzy!]
