What online site should i use to replace my eyeglass lenses?
Pince-nez

I need to replace the lenses in an old pair of glasses but cannot afford to pay Lenscrafter/Pearl Vision prices. Has anyone used an online site to replace their eyeglass lenses before?

Yep. The site is www.optical4less.com
I've been using their services for quite a while now. Been buying glasses and replacing lenses without a problem. I must say Optical4less is the smoothest and cheapest online store out there. I trust them 100% as I've been using them for so long already and you should too. Their quality is also excellent. I highly recommend them for this task. Just contact them if you aren't quite sure where to navigate on the site. They have impeccable customer support as well. You won't be disappointed. Good luck.

Need a new pair of eyeglass lenses, can I keep my frames?
Pince-nez 1

I need new lenses, but can't afford new frames now and love my current pair. Do the eyeglass places let you hold onto the frames, or do they have some creative way of scamming you into an expensive new pair of frames?

you can keep the frames and just get new lenses, however some places will only replace lenses in frames that *they* originally sold you....i'd go back to the same place you got them, or shop around - don't let anyone scam ya!

What is the average price of Eyeglass Lenses?
Eyeglass City

What is the average price of Eyeglass Lenses? Preferably from Walmart, but I don't mean the frames, I'm talking about just the lenses.

Also, if you had an eye exam to buy contacts, do you have to take another eye exam to buy glasses?

Prices vary by geographical regions. Call and ask. Also ask if they need you to take another eye exam for lenses.

When choosing eyeglass lenses, does the brand really matter?
Handsome teen c 1890's formal portrait

There are so many brands of eyeglass lenses: super famous ones, average ones, and no brand. Does it really make a difference?

If the brand DOES make a difference, which brands have the best quality/price ratio?

Without a doubt.

Ever take pictures with a disposable camera? What about a point and shoot camera? Now, what about with a professional camera? If you haven't... maybe you can visualize the quality of each of the pictures that would results from those lenses. Now translate that to the lenses that will sit in front of your eyes.

Branded lenses are generally a good thing because they have earned their name for the reputation of the quality of their product. Eyeglass lenses are no different. You want the best optics for which you will be viewing the world.

Has anyone worked finishing eyeglass lenses or Ophthalmology Tech?
Bulgarian Army Officer 1914 rl fp pz postcard

I plan to go to school to be an ophthalmology technician but want an entry level position for some experience beforehand. I have NO experience in this field.

I'm applying to a lab that finishes eyeglass lenses. Is it boring/repetitive? Is there a lot of math involved? Would I learn useful skills for future positions as a tech? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
To clarify, I'm not choosing between these jobs- I'm trying to figure out if doing one job would help me in the future with the other job. Thanks!

Preferably you need to have "some" experience in the field before taking the exam.. that is, if you want to be certified.
When I went to school, I was working for an Ophthalmologist for only a few months. Then my boss at the time sponsored me so that I could go to the school for Ophthalmic medical personnel.
It is definitely worth it and very rewarding.
Check out JCAHPO's website. http://www.jcahpo.org/
That is how I got my Certification and found a school near me.
As for being a tech, yes there is math involved when you do refractions and such. Once you learn it, its easy. Try working for an Ophthalmologist and say that you are planning to go to school to learn to be a tech and you would like to accept an entry-level position.
Good luck!

If you're going to shoot video you'll need a decent tripod. I use a Libec 38 with my XH A1 and it should be good for the 7D as well. I wouldn't want to go any cheaper than that. I'd say an ND .3, .6 and .9. If you have a variety of lenses with different thread sizes, a matte box would probably be more appropriate than threaded filters. If you're shooting any dialog, interviews, etc., then you'd want something for sound. Some are using the Juicedlink with Magic Lantern on the 5D, but ML isn't done yet for the 7D; so if you want to shoot sound before that happens, going double system is probably best. The Zoom H4N and the Tascam DR-100 recorders seem to be favorites in that area. With a hot shoe to 1/4" adapter, they can mount right on top of the camera. Use their built-in mics for ambient sound recording and get a decent shotgun and fishpole for good sound, or a wireless lav, or both. For a matte box on my XH A1 I use a Lee Filters Wide Angle Lens Hood. It was under $300. It's an expandable...
