whats the best way to fix a scratched eyeglass lens without buying any products?
painting my room

i have a somewhat deep scratch on my eyeglass lens and i do not want to buy any products to repair it, but i need a fix for it untill i get contact lenses. any sugestions?

YOU CAN KEEP YOUR SCRATCHED LENSES LOOKING CLEAR ON A TEMPORARY BASIS BUT, AS OFTEN AS YOU NEED TOO BY USING PLEDGE FURNITURE POLISH.
FIRST CLEAN YOUR GLASSES WITH WARN SUDSY WATER AND DRY WITH SOFT CLOTH.
THEN, APPLY PLEDGE ON TO LENS AND WIPE DRY WITH SOFT CLOTH.
YOU CAN REPEAT THIS AS OFTEN AS YOU NEED TOO.
THE WAX FILLS IN THE SCRATCHES AND ELIMINATES THE GLARE UNTIL THE WAX WEARS OFF, BUT, IT'S EASY ENOUGH TO DO OVER AND OVER. AND THEN YOU WILL:

How To Reinsert Eyeglass Lens Into Glass Frame?
bola de cristal

My right lens popped out of my eyeglass frame along with the screw (I was able to find the screw). Anyways i'm having a hard time trying to reinsert the lens. I can't seem to line up the lens correctly with the edges of the frame. the lens is thick, i guess cause i have Astigmastism.

There should be a ridge around the outside edge of the lens, this should fit the groove around the inside edge of the frame, the allignment is kind of tricky because the wire frame is kind of springy and typically keeps popping apart when trying to get the lens back in.

Maybe try putting something like a pin through the two screw holes so it sticks out about 1/2 inch on each side, then take a rubberband and wrap it several times around between the pin and frame to help hold the frame ends together but allow it to force open a little as you wedge the lens in place. Now slip the lens in and work your way around the edge and get the groove lined up all the way around. Once it is in correct position, the two metal things where the screw goes should be pretty close together. At this point, hold the frame securely around the lens, pull the pin out and remove the rubber band (if it doesn't fly off on its own) get the screw into the tiny hole and get it started before the whole mess comes apart again.

Note: it is possible that the screw thread is stripped and that is why it came out in the first place. If this is the case, sometimes you can make a temporary repair by running a piece of wire through the screw holes, bending it around and twisting to hold everything together, cut off the excess and carefully fold the twisted part over.

Can I use an eyeglass lens cleaner to remove scratches from my PDA (without damage)?
bodyboard in the dark

I have a few scratches on the screen of my PDA, and want to get rid of them! I thought a eyeglass lens cleaner would do the trick... Will it work without damaging the PDA's screen? Any advice or free alternatives is welcome.

The lens cleaner won't hurt at all. It's what you use it with that you will need to be careful about. Use one of those lens cleaner cloths.

What type of Eyeglass lens should i choose?

I have -3.50 in both eyes and little astigmatism? Is this prescription low, medium or strong? I'm trying to buy eyeglasses online and I cannot decide which lens to choose. Should i go with basic polycarbonate, high index 1.60, 1.67, trivex, aspheric? I cannot understand all the lingo.I do not want be a soda bottle but I do not want dish out a lots of dollars. Please help

Your prescription is ideal for the 1.60...with anti reflection coating.

Just hope that the lens quality will be anywhere near as good as what you would get at a local optical store...and that your frame choice will fit you.

What is the best eyeglass lens and frame for -13 prescription (severe nearsighted)?
every day , my friend.

I have been looking for the best thinnest lens possible for my -13 prescription. So far, I have heard about Zeiss and Nikon make one of the best lenses. Also, I am looking for the perfect frame for my prescription, taking in consideration of a very wide width face and flat nose :(. Help please!

Zeiss does a 1.9 lantal lens. its glass so gives you the thinnest finish possible - but downside is obvious issues with safety and the lens is heavier too due to it being a denser material. the best lens to go for would be a 1.74 plastic. its high index and the thinnest plastic available. as its plastic it wont be as heavy.

Go for a plastic frame. this will help with the cosmesis as it will hide most of the edge thickness. In a metal frame you will be able to see the edges of the lens hanging over in front and behind. Also something with thick arms and sides will help to hide the wdge thickness of your lenses.

the smaller the frame the thinner the lenses will be at the edges as most of the thickness in your prescription is on the outer edges

  • Lens Lady: Recycling Contact Lenses and Eyeglasses: Mission I ...

Most are in lesser developed countries, but even still the economic implications are staggering. The global GDP, or economic output, would increase by more than 1% if everyone could see. On a $60 trillion global economy, that means an extra $600 billion of wealth would be generated each year, thanks to a simple investment of $18 billion in eyewear (about the same amount spent just in the United States on eyeglass frames and prescription lenses). That's better than a ten-fold return on investment just in the first year! So, until we actually put our production capacities to use in order to solve the world's problems, the best first step is to recycle our old eyeglasses. There are almost 10 million pairs of perfectly good used glasses thrown away each year in North America and across Europe. If we could come together and raise awareness for eyeglass recycling, we could make millions of people happier and more productive. We could make millions of children able to read. The website is here:...
