I'm 44 years old and my doctor is strongly recommending the Restor lens for cataract lens replacement. From what I've been reading, I'm not so sure it is the best option. If I go with monofocal lenses, will I be able to achieve good reading and intermediate vision with contact lenses? (I currently wear monofocal contact lenses). My eyeglass prescription is -7 with Add Low for reading.
There's no right answer to that, as it's going to depend utterly on a individual's vision, history, needs and personality.
If you've adapted *well* to monovision in contacts, my suspicion is that you'd be happiest aiming to preserve that situation with the appropriate single vision implants.
On everything I've read so far, when my time comes (possibly only 5 years off) I'm going for single-vision implants aiming for -2.25 R&L, with the intention of wearing glasses for driving and television.
(Which I don't do, much, compared to the amount of reading and closework I do: a personal weighting to the decision.)
I purchased these eyeglasses around 4 or 5 years ago. They cost around $400.00 or more...The lenses are all smeared up...This is the result of the ...
I recently got my new prescription for my eyeglasses, and I was wondering if anybody knew how much it would cost if I brought in my frames and only wanted new lenses put in? I got my eye exam done with my local optometrist and I currently have these frames I bought somewhere else with an old script in them.
I really wanted to get this done at Costco as I am already going there to pick up contact lenses. I don't need transitions, polarized, or bifocals by the way. If anyone knows from experience how much it might cost, please let me know. Thank you!

I bought a new pair of sunglasses for $18 and the second day I had them I dropped them on a parking lot. Now there is a scratch in the middle of the lens!
I am afraid that the polarized coating will be damaged if I take it to an eyeglass or a sunglasses store (and I don't want to pay more than needed). Also I would imagine that the auto plastic scratch polish will remove the polarized coating as well.
Can I buy replacement lenses that are inexpensive? If so, where can I get them? (I don't want to order them online or anything of that nature)
ANY SUGGESTIONS???
Try your nearest garbage can. I think your glasses are done.

I have lost my *new* eyeglasses on Dec, 15.
I have been "groping" for everything beyond 3 feet from my grasp since this time.
I am still $aving any and all monies for a new pair of lenses. As a local Substitute Teacher, I carry no sort of Insurance to cover this expense. :-( What options am I overlooking although I cannot see that far?

In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility’s area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 300 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care.

I called my optician just now, wanting to make an appointment to order some new lenses for eyeglasses. I didn't want a different prescription--I just wanted replacement lenses. I've done this throughout my life, when I scratch them up. I was told that they couldn't do this without a new prescription. I asked if this was illegal to do, and they said it was.
I've never heard of such a ridiculous thing in my life. Am I out of touch or what?
I don't want to be told about why I need a test. My question is simply whether or not it is illegal to make replacement lenses if the prescription exceeds 12 months. Thanks
that's not illegal. if he is your regular optician then he should know your prescription just to get new frames. if it was less than 1yr then you should be fine. he's trying to make more money

Lasik Video: Specialized LASIK Eye Surgery with Monovision
Monovision offers an alternative solution, either through contact lenses or refractive surgery. Monovision eliminates the requirement of dual glasses by correcting individual eyes to different focal lengths. Normally, the dominant eye is focused for distance and the non-dominate eye is corrected for viewing closer images. Monovision works by tricking the brain into believing that the contact lens is a part of the actual eye. Depending on their lifestyle and needs, patients can choose whether to correct both eyes for distance or blend their vision by having one eye corrected for distance sight and the other for near sight. Presbyopia patients are unable to maintain focus on either near or distant objects and need glasses to help accommodate for their weaker focal length. The most common course of correction for Presbyopia is through bifocal glasses or through separate glasses with varying focal lengths to accommodate for both near and distance vision. Eye dominance is established by which eye works slightly harder than the other and is very simple to determine. To verify which eye is dominant: keep both eyes open, hold out a thumb at eye level and block either an object or a word in the line of site with the thumb. Close one eye and then close the other. The dominant eye is the one that did not see the object or word. Nearsighted adults, who use glasses to help see distant images, tend to be capable of up-close reading without glasses. By giving them 20/20 distance vision, they will lose their ability to adjust focal lengths and focus. These individuals will then likely need glasses for reading. It is important to realize that Monovision is meant to give you functional, not perfect, vision. Patients over 50 who choose not to include Monovision in their LASIK procedure will likely need reading glasses post-LASIK surgery. Lens Replacement Surgery is a possible alternative for patients over 50 who want to correct both near and distance vision, without a dependence on glasses or incorporating Monovision.
