Eyeglass Frames

Eyeglass stores invariably rip you off with huge markups (like 1000%) on eyeglass frames, but it has proven very difficult to find alternate sources for good-quality eyeglass frames at much more reasonable markups.

Walmart, or if you find a good deal like a one time sale somewhere else. Actually you can also buy peoples old frames on ebay and switch out the lenses if you're really thrifty.

I'm looking for new prescription eyeglass frames (not sunglasses) for a 13 year old girl. I want to choose a brand that is "in" - something that is high end, prestigious and well-known. The price must be US $500 or less. Thank you.
In a side note, what do you guys think of the brand "Lafont"? Is it in the same league as D&G, Prada and Bvlgari, or am I totally off-base?

D&G makes eyeglasses and so do DKNY, Prada, Burberry, Bvlgari, and Versace. Armani Exchange also makes eyeglasses.

Most teens who wear designer frames choose D&G, which are recognizable due to the large "D&G" lettering on the temples. Prada, Burberry, Bvlgari, Versace, and Ralph Lauren have smaller lettering on the sides and are typically more "classic." Meaning that it will probably be easier to find D&G in bright colors than Prada in bright colors.

Many teens also pick Vogue, which isn't a high-end brand but is pretty popular.

Generally all of the brands I mentioned are priced at about $300-400 per frame which is within your price range. It might be a little too much for a 13-year-old (I'm 13) since we teens move around a lot and if she's not extra careful, she may damage them. But if she's responsible enough and takes care to wipe her lenses off a few times every day and use a case when she's not wearing them, it's worth the investment since designer frames are so pretty and fairly strong. :D

Does it mean that the temples of the eyeglass frame can bend outward? Spring hinges opposed to what? Thanks.

It means that the legs where they attach to the frame will be more flexible than more traditional hinges. So you can bend the legs out slightly to fit on to your ears and on the side of your head. They make for a more comfortable fit. x

I found an ideal pair of Jaguar eyeglass frames. Regrettably, the store here only sells them in blue. I wanted something like brown. These are men's eyeglass frames.

The number on the frames are: 33513 455. Any idea where I can purchase them? Purchasing on the internet is preferable, but even at an individual store I could pay with a credit card and have them shipped to me here in Europe.

EVERYONE in my school has black frames for their eyeglasses. i hate being common, so i want to customize them. how can i do that without the glasses looking trashy?

Draw on it with silver sharpie marker, get stickers, you can even put tiny holes on them with a drill, but be careful.
