You know those eyeglass stores or whatever have all those clear glasses for you to try on to see what glasses you want? well once they no longer need a certain pair, what happens to them? are they thrown out, saved, sold? please i really am curious!

Actually, when an optical store is managed right, there are very few old frames around.

When we buy them, we can return them usually within 90 days if it is a model that isn't selling well , or at least exchange for newer , different models when the sales rep from that specific company comes around again...which is usually every 3 months.

Those frames are then sold by them again to another store where they may sell better.

Eventually, even the suppliers end up with an over stock of frames that don't sell well, so then they are picked up by the cheapo discount optical places.

I buy discontinued models sometimes also for a separate display board that can be sold real cheap for those who want an inexpensive 2nd or 3rd pair of glasses.

So, there you have it...there aren't many old ones around that aren't useful to someone.

My sister-in-law use to work for an eye doctor and she gave me a pair of floor model eyeglasses, she said I can take it to an optical store and they will put in the lenses that I need. I want to know if I go to a store will they know that the frames are a floor model? The frames don't have any lenses in them right now she took them out. I just want to make sure I don't want to look like a fool if I walk in to the store and they know that the frames are a floor model pair. Any impute would help..Thanks

Usually a floor model is hard to recognize, and otherwise: who cares! It is not that they are charging any additional costs for glazing a shop model.

If you want to save some money, you could also think about ordering the lenses online. I know that for example www.smartbuyglasses.com has a re-glaze service. I have order some prescription glasses in the past with them and I can really recommend them. Anyways, it never hurts to contact some online optical stores to see if they can be of any help.

I would consider myself a very classy but "non-flashy" dresser and I almost always avoid any designer logos on my cloths. Most of the time I'm in business or business-casual attire. I really try to be a humble person and I hate to wear, drive, or display things that shout "look at me!" Well, I just bought new versace eyeglass frames because I love the way the fit my face but they have the word "versace" along each side. The lettering is pretty small and is no more than 3/4 of an inch long. Is something like this too flashy/trashy/tacky? I'm very tempted to cover up the lettering somehow but I'd love feedback on what people think before I deface these things. Can I maintain a humble and classy look with such a designer logo on my frames?

i think so bcuz its ur attitude, not the clothes. and u bought them for the shape/quality, not the label so it wont affect ur humbleness. dont worry about it. nobody will notice anyway.
