Eyeglass Cleaner?

When I run out of the eyeglass cleaner from my eye doctor, would using regular glass cleaner (such as Windex, etc.) be just as good? Is there really a difference between them?

Please don't use Windex if you have plastic lenses. Many scratch-resistant coatings will eventually break down from the chemicals in Windex and then will scratch when you clean them.

It really isn't a good idea to clean them with any type of cleaner made for other surfaces. Eyeglass cleaner has usually been tested for use with most coatings on plastic lenses.

Dish detergents (Dawn, Joy, or Ivory) are usually mild enough to clean your lenses without damaging the coatings. Rinse off with warm (not hot) water. It's best to dry them with a lens cloth or a soft, smooth 100% cotton starch-free cloth (think old diapers, tshirts, or hankies.)

I've had patients refill their bottles with water and add just a couple of drops of dish detergent. If you have anti-reflective lenses, though, you may need to rinse this off to avoid smearing. If you don't have anti-reflective lenses, this solution may also help your glasses not fog up.

Can eyeglass cleaner be used to repair a scratched cd?

I have a windows xp cd, its very important, but there are scratches on it that prevent me from installing language packs, would eyeglass cleaner be able to fix it? I remember the guy who sold me the cleaner told me it cleans your glasses and puts a protective coating on it. I dont want to mess this disc up, I already used rubbing alcohol to clean it, it didnt remove the scratches, will this work?

It cant hurt, but it takes a special high speed grinder to reface CD,s. Some music stores and photo shops may have the equipment.

I had eyeglass cleaner spray and wipes in my trunk during a hot summer day. Does the cleaner go bad or damage the eyeglasses if it is stored in extreme heat?

Can I use an eyeglass lens cleaner to remove scratches from my PDA (without damage)?

I have a few scratches on the screen of my PDA, and want to get rid of them! I thought a eyeglass lens cleaner would do the trick... Will it work without damaging the PDA's screen? Any advice or free alternatives is welcome.

The lens cleaner won't hurt at all. It's what you use it with that you will need to be careful about. Use one of those lens cleaner cloths.

Is there a cheap eyeglass lens cleaner that is safe for polycarbonate lenses?

I was told that dish soap is harmful to the lenses. Is there an alternative cleaner to the wipes the vision center recommends?

RUBBING ALCOHOL. IT WORKS GREAT AND EVOPORATES QUICK. NO STREAKS

  • Test It Tuesday — Ultrasonic Jewelry And Eyeglass Cleaner « Test ...

While I do wear contact lenses on the air ( the secret is out ), I prefer to wear glasses but I often find them hard to clean. Even if I do use that cloth, I will end up getting smudge marks on them from time to time.

I don’t think anything is perfect other than windex and wipes when it comes to cleaning glasses, I did find something that sounded interesting: a device which you fill with water and drop your glasses inside. Then, ultrasounds literally shakes the dirt off and dust off. The ultrasonic jewelry cleaner ( available at Brookstone ) is a variation on this device and say it not only works on jewelry, but also eyewear.

To give it a try, the man who has become one of Pittsburgh’s more prominent eyeglass wearers:  Dan Bylsma, head coach of the Stanley Cup champion Penguins. He practices with the team wearing his glasses, which get all sorts of water and ice on them. Even on the bench, his eyewear gets covered in sweat, ice chips, etc.

Dan, as he prefers to be called, invited us into the Pens locker room during rookie orientation to give the Ultrasonic eyeglass cleaner a try. While he said there was no room on the tiny bench at Mellon Arena for the device, he said it would be perfect in the locker room … if it works … for the many players that wear glasses off-the-ice.
