Can anyone help me find a style of eyeglasses?

I have an astigmitism, and with my prescription, my glasses always magnify my eyes a little bit. Not like coke-bottle glasses or anything, but enough for me to notice. I have had rimless glasses in the past, and I have had the thick rimmed emo plastic ones as well. I am looking for a style that will sort of hide the fact that my eyes seem bigger. I was thinking the style with the rim on top, but rimless on the bottom. Thanks

I'd need to see a photo of you to suggest a style. rounder faces usually look best in square glasses... but it's typically a case-by-case basis.

A semi-rimless (the style you're alluding too) will generally look great on most people. Keep in mind that it does tend to open up your face more, so it may not hide the size of your eyes very well.

You can't really hide the size of your eyes. I'd suggest you instead try to find a pair of attention-grabbing specs that will reduce the focus on your eyes.

It all comes down to your prescription. A strong prescription will yield a thicker lens, in which case i would strongly suggest against semi-rimless, or even the completely rimless drill-mount. DKNY and Oakley make some fantastic metal frames that are thick enough to hide the lens thickness, while classy enough to draw attention away from the eyes themselves... that's where I'd start.

Oakley can be a tad tougher to find, but the DKNY frames are available most anywhere.

here's an example of a slick DKNY frame:

my store sells this frame and I'm yet to see anyone (male or female) that looks bad in them. As a matter of fact, i purchased them for myself.

Thick eyeglass lenses?

So this is my prescription for both eyes -3.00-0.75x180
and when I went to buy eyeglasses the other day, the sales guy told me I'd have to buy the more expensive lighter, thinner lenses, or else they'd be like coke bottle lenses. And he showed me an example of what they would look like and they were literally 2 inches thick! My eyesight is like moderately bad ,so would my glasses really be that thick if I had the normal lenses?

That perscription is not very strong at all, if it is correct, is very close to mine, my lenses are the regular type, they are about 1.5" x 2'' and are only about 3/16" thick at the edges; they are about the same thickness as the plastic frames, so there would be no real benefit to me by spending money to make them thinner.

Either the guy has accidentally (or maybe deliberately) picked out the wrong lenses to show you (maybe to scare you into spending more money, than you need to). Also the lenses they have as blanks are way larger than most of the frames people get, so the thickest part of the lens is getting cut off to fit them into the frames anyway.

It could also be that the guy is correct and you have accidentally listed a prescription that is much weaker than you actually need, so you might want to double check the numbers.

Realistic prop glasses for theatrical/film purposes - help, opticians/optometrists!?

Is it possible for an optician to make realistic-looking prop eyeglasses for theatrical purposes?

I'm helping out with props/costuming for an original short film production. One of the main characters is described (paraphrasing from script) as "astonishingly nearsighted, her eyes almost hidden by the massive lenses of her glasses". The actress who has been cast for the part occasionally wears glasses, but only a mild prescription; we would like to get her looking the part as closely as possible.

I know you can get gag "coke-bottle" glasses from any costume shop, but those always look cheesy and fake. It would seem to make sense to go to an optician's and tell them what we need, as they could surely make a pair of real, thick prescription glasses for us - but then our actress would not be able to see through them.

So, how can we solve our dilemma? Would it possible for an optometrist to fit the actress for a pair of contacts that would allow her to see through some realistic looking thick prescription glasses, thus enabling her to really look the part and still be able to see during filming?

If we do go this route (if it's indeed possible), how much might we expect to pay for a contact lens fitting, a small supply of disposable contacts, and a big honkin' pair of thick glasses?

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer!

HELP! going to a sleepover/campout and hate my glasses...is it really bad to sleep in contacts just once?

im going to a sleepover tomorrow night and we're going to be camping outside...& i have a HORRIBLE eyeglass prescription..it's a -12 (which is basically considered legally blind)...and i always wear contacts except when i'm like at home in my room because my glasses are MAJOR coke bottles..MAJOR (and they're the special extra thin lenses too..id hate to see what theyd look like if they werent...)..i feel so awful and ugly in them...I basically always avoid sleepovers and stuff because i'm so ashamed to be seen in them...but i really want to go tomorrow night. plus i already look like crap without makeup, but I can even deal with that. it's just the no makeup + coke bottles glasses thats hideous. is it really that bad to sleep in contacts for just one night? (i wear acuvue oasys)& yeah i know it probably is, so does anyone have any other suggestions for me on how to avoid being seen in my glasses (i literally cant function without contacts or glasses..so not wearing them isnt an option)

A. Theoretically, yes you could, but it's not healthy.
B. You don't want to do it once because once you do something once, it gets easier to do a second time and yes, sleeping in your contacts is horrible.
C. You really don't need to wear your glasses for too long between going to bed and waking up, and if the people you're sleeping with are your friends, they may poke a little fun but it's worth it to not get a possible very painful infection.
D. IF you do end up getting an infection you will be FORCED to wear your glasses EVERYWHERE until the infection heals. Meaning basically that people who AREN'T your friends will see you in them.
E. If you do sleep in them, and you make it a habit, you can seriously damage your eye. You could get a ulcer (painful!) and then be stuck wearing glasses for an EVEN LONGER period of time.

Feeling ugly for a little while may hurt, but it doesn't come close to infection, ulcers or blindness.

<3 buck up! You'll be having too much fun to even notice.

P.S. Please don't miss out on any more slumber parties because you're embarrassed of your glasses....these years only come once, and you don't want to regret it later over a little insecurity.

Do Glasses Make Your Vision Worse?

Can you really improve your vision by removing your glasses and exercising your eyes? Ophthalmologists call it quackery, yet I have some good reasons to doubt them. To get closer to the truth, I will be testing this controversial idea over the next thirty days.

My experiment will work essentially like this: for the next thirty days, I will stop wearing my glasses and do some weird eye exercises dutifully every single day. I will test my nearsighted vision regularly and see if it changes at all. I don’t have any expectations going into this. I know that I’m testing a widely derided theory, and even if it’s true, it probably takes a lot longer than thirty days to make serious improvements. I want to see if I can improve my vision even a little bit, and whether I can stand to get around without glasses on for an extended period of time. My vision is not so bad that going without glasses is crippling, but it does make things harder. At the very least, I want to decide whether natural vision improvement is worth trying over a longer period of time, and whether I can stand to be unglassed for more than a few hours.
